After paid upgrading of problem Uniden products for years, companies still refuses to replace any minor part
Review by Jeffrey Jolson, Publisher and Editor of Hollywood Today
HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 6/6/09 - At Hollywood Today, we write a lot of product reviews, but never had we had to scribe one as negative as this.
We have bought (we never take free products in case they are faulty in some way and we have to give them a negative review), but we have never seen two supposedly reputable companies refuse a small part after we have spent hundreds of dollars with them.
All 12 Unidens, some bought through Buydig have proved faulty. The fancy two-line TRU-8866 base units, the simpler one-line DCT5285-2h6, and several $139 supposed new handsets- rechargers and one other baseunit-rechargers. Not one of them works rights or work together.
Have spent time and time again with them on phone and they only get ruder as I move up to supervisors.
One $30 handset for any of the expensive baseunits would have settled this, but these appear to be stubborn people. I have all names of people contacted, but will not publish out of courtesy. They used words even we would not re-print, saying all the items were past due for replacement and F-U.
In all honesty, I have not run full tests with these products within 30 days, but I count 12 different cordless phone on my desk-so we have lots to review and I am not even the tech writer. He has many more and we try to get the news out to you as soon as possible. Our lawyers are as good as theirs, and a $30 handset could have settled this. The most recent handset now does not even get a screen output or dial tone.
I have been complaining about this for some time, but now they must understand their honor — not some 20-30 day policy — with their even minimally servicing customers is a piority.

Wash Your Hands Won’t Keep The Fat Virus Away - So Take A Walk!
By Sandy DiIorio,
WASHINGTON,D.C.(Hollywood Today/RushPRnews) 03/19/09 - Last January, news outlets throughout the world reported that a study proved obesity could be produced not only by poor eating habits and genetics, but through the “fat virus.” Reports stated that this virus can be caught as easily as a common cold from other people’s coughs, sneezes and dirty hands. Nikhil Dhurandhar, an associate professor at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center at Louisiana State University, said the virus, known as AD-36, is a highly infectious disease which spreads from the lungs to the rest of the body, forcing fat cells to replicate. “This may explain why fat tissues expand, and how people are becoming obese with the virus,” Dhurandhar said. This news left many people wondering what could be done to prevent the spread of this ‘virus’. Read the rest of this Hollywood Today story »

Blackfeet Indian Tribal lands to be next home to expanding Blue Ray By Jeffrey Jolson
Blu-ray future as sales of high-def screens soar
HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 11/4/08 - For those that thought India was receiving too much high-tech outsourcing or that Native Americans will be living off casinos, there is a new sheriff in town.
Spokane, WA-based Blue Ray Technologies, the largest U.S. indie Blu-ray manufacturer, is planning its next plant to be on Blackfeet Indian land in Montana, said reps for the tribe and the company. The plan to build next-gen plants on Indian land will help the Blackfoot Nation and soon other tribes to evolve into the 21st Century with a technological source of income and educational skills.
“This is about ‘No American left behind,’” said DVD pioneer and Blue Ray Technologies founder Erick Hansen. “Schools, especially those on tribal lands, are just not preparing kids for the future. It’s not only the outsourcing to China and India in the new tech industries, it is more important. No American left behind. Period.”
“Bringing BRT here is a giant step in moving in the direction to the new world of technology that links all people,” said one Blackfoot member. “We have 70% unemployment in the winter and 50% in the summer.”
Hansen was made an honorary member of the tribe at Read the rest of this Hollywood Today story »
Lewis Hamilton stays in front, Jimmie in line for a Hat Trick and France is missing By David Mirsky
Hamilton: Unstoppable?
HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 10/21/08 — Last year’s debacle for Lewis Hamilton at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai cost him the World Championship. However, this is, after all, a whole new year. Not only did Lewis Hamilton take revenge on 2007, he set fastest lap, he won the pole position, and handily won the race. He had to drive his pants off in order to keep the Ferrari’s of Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen off his back. Hamilton did just that. He was cool and smooth throughout the entire weekend, even with the absurd statement from Fernando Alonso at the driver’s meeting, saying that he would help Massa win the championship over Hamilton. That statement is obviously lingering from last year’s grudge that Alonso had with Ron Dennis and the McLaren group.
At the start of the race, Hamilton took control into the first turn with a great start. It was the 2 McLarens and the 2 Ferraris, followed by Alonso’s Renault. These five quickly pulled away from the pack, and the 3rd championship contender, Robert Kubica in his BMW, was somewhere back in the pack playing catch up for the entire race. For the most part, the race was uneventful…similar to the weather during the race, which was dull and overcast.
As for the other cars and drivers, Mark Webber who had a great Read the rest of this Hollywood Today story »
Deal would see single Blu-ray discs that could hold 68 million pages of documents
Hansen: Vows to put Library of Congress on one disc
Spokane WA (Hollywood Today) 9/22/08 — Blue Ray Technologies is pleased to announce it has entered into an exclusive agreement with Chatsworth Data Corp. to capture data from forms and documents that can be converted to the Blu-ray disc format, the next generation disc that allows 25-50 GB per disc at present. That would mean each disc could contain from 1.6 million to 34 million pages of documents, depending on their format.
Furthermore, Blue Ray is developing its four-layer 100GB BD that would hold 68 million pages of RTF documents on one disc.
“Our goal is to put the entire Library of Congress on a single disc,” said Blue Ray founder and DVD pioneer Erick Hansen. “We can’t replace their original Gutenberg Bible or Declaration of Independence draft, but our lofty target is to capture their 34 million books on a single disc within two years.”
“Everything we know about storage today is obsolete, said BRT’s Sandra Costa. “As we grow it will only get bigger, more visual. There will be a decade of new buyers choosing Blu-ray for their movie and music video libraries as well as corporate and government clients looking for the massive, secure storage capabilities.”
“This (alliance with BRT and CDC) goes beyond the whirling dervish options currently offered. Never confuse Read the rest of this Hollywood Today story »
Creating Batman’s New Motorcycle for ‘The Dark Knight’
By Robin Rowe
HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 7/17/08 – “What I love about Batman is that he has no super powers except for his extraordinary wealth,” says ‘The Dark Knight’ director Christopher Nolan. “Looking at it from that point of view, if you had limitless financial resources, and therefore a lot of power in material ways, how could you apply that to the creation of some amazing gadgets and crime-fighting techniques, all of which are still based on real science and real-world logic?”
“Will you be wanting the Bat-Pod, Sir?”
“In the middle of the day, Alfred? Not very subtle.”
Nolan says, “It’s a two-wheeled vehicle, but it’s definitively not a motorcycle.” The Bat-Pod is self-standing, meaning it does not require a foot stand. It has the same monster truck tires found on Read the rest of this Hollywood Today story »
Party for some, nightmare for others as heavy traffic at stores and on Internet software download centers
By Jeffrey Jolson
HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 7/11/08 – There were fireworks and long lines from California and New York to Tokyo and London for the introduction of the new iPhone 3G, the new beefed-up version of the popular cell phone from Apple.
The fireworks sputtered for many customers, some of which had been waiting in line three days or more to be first to get the hot gadget at lowered prices than the last iPhone release, — $199 and $299 this time, depending on memory amount.
Some stores were in short supply and those that could get a unit were not always able to register their phones and hook them up with the local cell phone companies.
Apple’s servers on Friday reached their breaking point as people in the United States and 21 other countries rushed to stores to buy and activate their new iPhones or tried to update older models with the latest firmware.
People waiting in line at stores reported very slow progress in getting their hands on Apple’s media player-smartphone hybrid. Others trying to update older models with the latest 2.0 firmware, the same operating system powering the new gadgets, according to Information Week, fared even worse, since incomplete downloads of the software left their iPhones unusable.
A suddenly unusable phone is a real nightmare for business and heavy cell users, one of which told Hollywood Today they thought it was a ploy to get them to upgrade to the new phone. Apparently it will be fixed soon and they will be able to use their older iPhones phones again, though we had as much trouble getting through to Apple press department as iPhone users had getting through to registration and software centers.
Internet overload had hundreds of fans outside Apple’s Store on Regent Street in London waiting to be connected. The problem was also experienced by O2, Apple’s Read the rest of this Hollywood Today story »
