A laid back celebration of the art of film

By Valerie Milano

Hollywood, CA (Hollywood Today) 3/3/14 – The 86th Annual Academy Awards was casual TV viewing. This year’s show at the Dolby Theater was refreshingly free of elaborate dance numbers and hyperactive staging. Its simple theme was “Heroes in The Movies”. By: Valerie Milano
Hollywood, CA (Hollywood Today) 3/3/14 –“The EP, obviously, the Jimmy Kimmel appearance I did, the Guitar Center Podcast…I mean, the gear is great, but that’s the real stuff. We’ve really just started pushing the record and so far, people are saying it’s the best stuff I’ve ever done,” Jeff Campbell, winner of Guitar Center’s Singer Songwriter II said of the highlights of the past year. Chosen from over 12,000 entrants, Campbell and nine other finalists performed one original song in front of an audience and Grammy award winning producer John Shanks. Campbell said of his fellow contestants, “The whole thing last year was really fraternal…if one of the other guys or girls had won it, I would have been fine. The fact that it was me was an honor and I was very excited.”

“…democracy invites us to participate.” Jason Mraz

By Valerie Milano
Los Angeles, CA (Hollywood Today) 3/2/14 – Jason Mraz is a busy guy. One visit to his website confirms this. Mraz has matriculated from the San Diego coffee house circuit to Alt-Pop stardom the old fashioned way, hard work. However, there is another story bubbling underneath the crossover success. Jason Mraz is an artist with a social conscience. Not to say that Mraz is a political activist-artist in the mold of the recently departed Pete Seeger; Mraz is more a philanthropist who often throws his celebrity weight behind worthy charities. That being said, the artist is no shrinking violet when it comes to worthwhile socio-political causes. It’s simply a matter of being a musician first and a facilitator second. Quite appropriate given that his effectiveness as the latter depends greatly on his success as the former.
