Miss California USA Forced to Relinquish Crown

Miss California USA Carrie Prejean, 22, has been recalled by her pageant's organizers for failing to attend promotional appearances, despite having been given a second chance in the wake of a topless photo scandal earlier this spring

Donald Trump pulls the plug on Carrie Prejean

By Matthew B. Zeidman

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Today) 6/10/09 – After months of scandal involving alleged homophobia, topless photos and controversial breast implants, the organizers of the Miss California USA pageant and Miss USA pageant owner Donald Trump have ordered Miss California USA Carrie Prejean to relinquish her title.

In a statement to Access Hollywood, the Miss California USA Organization claimed a “continued breach of contract issues” was behind the decision, which was a break from the pageant company’s earlier support of the 22-year-old, and said that Trump approved the action.

In a separate statement, Miss California USA Executive Director Keith Lewis said missed promotional appearances were partly behind the change in policy and that it had “become abundantly clear” that Prejean was “unwilling to fulfill her [contractual] obligations.”

Prejean faced widespread media scrutiny, following her loss at the Miss USA pageant in Las Vegas on April 19. During the ceremony, where she finished as first runner up, she was prompted by openly gay judge Perez Hilton to express her opinion regarding the legalization of same-sex marriage. She responded that she personally did not believe in the legalization of such unions—an answer which Hilton later claimed cost her the title of Miss USA.

Prejean also faced criticism regarding two topless photos leaked on the Internet, as well as her breast implants, which were paid for by the Miss California USA organization before the Miss USA pageant. In May, Trump announced that Prejean failing to disclose the racy images to pageant officials was not a serious enough offense to warrant recalling her as Miss California USA.

Dogfighting in L.A. an issue

Los Angeles, CA (Hollywood Today) 5/17/09 - An exclusive gala thrown by The Humane Society of the United States took place last Saturday in the Hollywood Hills. Drawing stars like Michael Vartan, Jorja Fox, Corey Feldman, Shannon Elizabeth, Alicia Witt, Hal Sparks and Matt Grant of The Bachelor, the event marked the launch of the new HSUS campaign, “End Dogfighting in Los Angeles.”
“American Pie” sweetheart Shannon Elizabeth told Hollywood Today, “any animal rescue stuff I’m such an advocate for… everything they do that changes the laws and can help the welfare of the animals and educate people is such an important thing and I want to be able to help.”
Noting the difference in rescuing an animal and buying an animal, she also advises prospective adopters, “You shouldn’t stereotype a type of dog. Pit bulls get such a bad rap.” The owner of four dogs, Elizabeth’s latest project includes six episodes of Showtime’s comedy sketch show, “Live Nude Comedy.”
“End Dogfighting in Los Angeles,” according to the Humane Society, “educates at-risk youths to consider their pit bulls as beloved pets rather than lethal weapons.”
“Girlfriends” star Persia White, a vegan for eight years, talked to Hollywood Today about her Read the rest of this Hollywood Today story »

Fitness Centers Around the DC Area Tackle Obesity Just In Time for May, the National Physical Fitness and Sports Month

By Janine Theriault

WASHINGTON,(HT/RPRN) 5/08/09 - The old maxim “there is no time like the present” is particularly applicable to the epidemic of childhood obesity this month, as new studies highlight yet more concerns for the health of the nation’s children and we enter into May – otherwise known as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month.

The topic should be of general interest (and particular concern) to residents of Washington D.C. now, as the area appears to be the epicenter of the modern endemic, and the current month affords even more opportunity, resources, and motivation for tackling the problem of childhood obesity head on. Swine Flu: Should we Panic?

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

By Jeffrey Jolson

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) -4/30/09 - The headlines may be scary, with Ft. Worth, TX closing it’s schools, but should we stand up or put on face masks? What do you think? Please respond, do you think what VP Joe Biden says and not go on public transportation?

Three new cases of Swine Flu, likely from travelers to Mexico, have been diagnosed as far away as Great Britain. The

country said it is currently investigating 230 other cases.
Liam Donaldson, the government’s chief medical officer, said he was “concerned, but not alarmed” over the swine flu outbreak, which also reached the Netherlands, Switzerland and Ireland on Thursday. Confirmed cases there bring the total of affected countries to at least 12.
“I’m in a position where I feel we can reassure the public that we know what we are doing, we have a clear plan in place, and we will do everything possible to mitigate the impact of this,” Donaldson told the BBC.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown told members of Parliament that Read the rest of this Hollywood Today story »

Book offers mind over matter approach to weight loss *** 3 Stars

You Can Think Yourself Thin by Ursula James

You Can Think Yourself Thin by Ursula James

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 4/30/2009 - “The funniest thing is I started to lose weight myself,” says You Can Think Yourself Thin author Ursula James. “This wasn’t intentional at all, but once I started to write the book, I became aware that there were times when I didn’t practice what I preached in relation to looking after myself properly, and taking care of my needs first.”

“I’m now much more relaxed about my eating habits,” says James. “I allow myself a blow-out occasionally, and am now able to reset to a default of healthy eating and exercise, rather than saying ‘Oh well, I have ruined my diet now,’ and giving myself permission to continue overeating.”

This book is a rational, realistic way to help you loose the weight you want to lose without making you feel guilty if you do eat too much. Ursula James shows how to use hypnotherapy to help you stay on track. The CD to walk you thought the process of hypnotherapy is very helpful. The technique can be used for other things as well.

“I’m a full-time hypnotherapist and have been for the past fifteen years,” says James. “In that time I saw many people for weight loss. It was the only problem where nearly everyone I saw knew the answer to change, but were not Read the rest of this Hollywood Today story »

New U.S. Swine Flu Cases from NY to CA Spread Pandemic Fears

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Newly Confirmed Cases In NYC Bring The Total In U.S. To 20 So Far

NEW YORK (Hollywood Today) 4/26/09 — New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg said Sunday that the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has confirmed that same strain of the human swine influenza that has killed people in Mexico has infected at least eight students of a high school. Also, the CDC confirmed a case Sunday in Ohio. That brings the total of confirmed cases to 20, including cases in California, Texas and Kansas. Patients have ranged in age from 9 to over 50.

Over the last few years we have seen an increase in “unusual” viruses appearing, like SARS and more recently Avian flu, all of which have caused fears of a potential “pandemic”.

The latest outbreak in Mexico of “Swine Flu” is perhaps the most worrying yet, because of the number of deaths already seen and its apparent ability to spread quickly to other countries.

As the name suggests “Swine Flu” is a virus that normally affects pigs, or occasionally humans who have had close contact with pigs. However, this latest swine flu outbreak consists of a new or rare strain, making it very difficult to offer the public an effective vaccine.

Some of the Symptoms to watch out for with this virus are: a fever of more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit (37.8 degrees Celsius), body aches, coughing, a sore throat, respiratory congestion and, in some cases, vomiting and diarrhea.
