Celebs and Entrepreneur Join Force To Save the Earth

By Janine Theriault

HOLLYWOOD (Hollywood Today/RushPRnews) 03/28/09 - With Earth Day ’09 fast approaching, many people find their minds wandering to thoughts tinged with green. In the face of what may seem to be a daily deluge of bad environmental news, a certain sense of helpless blues edging out the agreeable green in one’s mind can be expected. It can be hard to see what effect any one person can have on the problem.

Fortunately, it appears that a new breed of entrepreneurs is taking up the challenge presented by the environment’s degradation. Thanks to these individuals, consumers now have an ever-broadening choice, especially on-line, of shops providing green products - allowing instant-activism with a click of the mouse.

Small business myEARTH360.com founder Lynn Hasselberger is one such person who decided to get over the malaise and get to work on making her world better.

Mandy Moore to Wed Boyfriend Ryan Adams

Mandy Moore announced through her publicist Wednesday that she and beau Ryan Adams were planning to tie the knot

Two musicians have been dating since 2008

By Matthew B. Zeidman

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 2/12/09 – Singer Mandy Moore had her biggest success to date with the 2000 radio hit “I Wanna Be With You,” and now she’s sure she wants to be with rocker boyfriend Ryan Adams. The entertainer announced the musical pair’s engagement to the Associated Press on Wednesday.  No wedding date has yet been announced.

In the years before she began dating Adams (the two first got together in 2008), Moore, 24, had been linked with several other celebrities, including “That ‘70s Show” star Wilmer Valderrama, tennis big Andy Roddick, “Scrubs” funnyman Zach Braff and Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein.

Adams, 34, is an accomplished singer/songwriter, who recently announced he would step down as frontman for the rock band he helped found, “The Cardinals.” He cited progressive hearing loss and disappointment with audience behavior as reasons for the upcoming split.

Adams began releasing solo material in 2000, a year after leaving alternative country group Whiskeytown, and had a minor hit the following year with his single, “New York, New York.” The accompanying music video was filmed on Sept. 7, 2001 and featured the title city’s Twin Towers in the background.

Moore, whose full name is Amanda Leigh Moore, first came on the entertainment scene with 1999’s platinum-selling album “Candy” and has since made a name for herself as an actress, with films, such as “Because I Said So,” “Chasing Liberty” and “License to Wed.”

Her newest album, “Amanda Leigh,” is scheduled to drop on May 26. It will be her sixth full-length release, not counting two compilation discs released in 2004 and 2005, respectively.

Moore has also dabbled in the world of design, launching her Mblem women’s clothing line in 2005, but told Women’s Wear Daily on Tuesday that she had decided to discontinue her pet fashion project.

Video adaptation of Lisi Harrison novel caters to fans of the book series

By Matthew B. Zeidman

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 12/19/08 – If you have a longtime fan of the Lisi Harrison novels in your household, you were probably on line to buy “The Clique” DVD the day it came out. However, if your child is a recent “Pretty Committee” convert, this live-action adaptation of the first book in the series is probably a safe bet for a last-minute holiday gift.

“The Clique,” inspired by Harrison’s time as an MTV employee, follows Claire Lyons (Ellen Marlow), an Orlando middle-schooler thrust into the unfamiliar worlds of high fashion, gossip and backstabbing when she begins attending a posh private school in Westchester County, N.Y.

Claire does all she can to fit in with the town’s resident alpha, Massie Block, and her group of well dressed and elitist friends, but begins to feel the weight of bad karma when she stoops to their level to get what she wants.

With an abundance of premium labels, palatial homes and ruthless teens, the film is similar in spirit to “Gossip Girl,” but is clearly geared to a younger crowd and lacking the explicitness and moral ambiguity of its more mature cousin. Though mean-spirited pranks abound, it’s nothing inappropriate for a 13-year-old reader-turned-moviegoer.

While the majority of the cast give merely adequate performances, newcomer Elizabeth McLaughlin brings a surprising charisma to her role as Massie. When she stares daggers at Marlow’s character, it provides both drama and comic relief without seeming cartoonish.

As for the dialogue, it was clearly written and directed to mimic the over-the-top style of the novel, which might turn off the uninitiated. But, like “Twilight,” those who have read the novel will likely be pleased by the film’s consistency in regard to its source material.

In conclusion, any fan of “The Clique” will get a kick out of seeing the book series’ characters come to life on the small screen. For the curious non-fan, however, hedge your bets and rent it.

Former Disney poster child accuses Elle of falsifying virginity quote

By Matthew B. Zeidman

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 12/16/08 – “Raise Your Voice” headliner Hilary Duff is speaking up about her interview with Elle two years ago, in which she allegedly claimed her virginity was intact. The “With Love” singer, fragrance designer and fashion mogul told Maxim in its upcoming January issue that the 2006 statement about her sex life was a complete fabrication.

“You know what? I was quoted saying I was a virgin,” Duff, 21, revealed to the popular lad mag, “but I absolutely did not say that. That’s nobody’s business but my own.”

The former “Lizzie McGuire” star did not specify if the suspect section of text was accurate or not, but did criticize the media at large for promulgating rumors the entertainer enjoyed dispensing amateur lap dances at various night clubs.

“People love to believe it; it’s way more exciting to talk about than the truth,” Duff put forth. “And they’re so descriptive about these lap dances. I don’t even know how to do a lap dance!”

Duff, who appears in various states of undress in Maxim’s January issue, has striven over the past several years to distance herself from the wholesome Disney image by which she rose to fame in 2001. In 2004, she appeared in a provocative photo shoot in Blender magazine, and earlier this year, she portrayed a coquettish pop star in the satirical romp “War, Inc.”

Paris Hilton Split

Paris-Madden say bye as she moves to Stavros, Nicole still with Madden twin

Paris Hilton and Madden: Next stop for her may be John Madden

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 11/20/08 — Paris Hilton has split with rocker Benji Madden, whose twin brother is still going out with Nicole Richie. A b.f. breakup is not normally news at HT, but an official statement was made by Hilton’s publicist Alanna McCarthy, and Paris is head of several corporations as well as one heir to the Hilton hotel estate.
Paris and Benji, guitarist for Good Charlotte, were  inseparable for months, with Paris even touring with the band.
Yet the kicker was the twin thing: How long until Paris comrade Nicole breaks with Joel Madden, lead singer of Good Charlotte? Only thing in this soap opera is that Nicole and Joel have a daughter together. “Days of Our Lives” or even “Scooby Doo” could not have come up with a wackier script. It could be that Joe the Farmer is about to pull off his mask and reveal himself as Conrad Hilton.
Next thing to everyone, who cares, is asking “What hither Paris?” Well, she is hanging with Stavros Niarchos in Miami, though McCarthy says Hilton and Madden “remain good friends.”
Op-ed: One odder note, or perhaps a familiar one. Once addicted to headlines, you can’t keep out of them. Paris, after her jail stay and being Read the rest of this Hollywood Today story »

NEW YORK (Hollywood Today) 11/18/08 – It was the swimmers’ version of the Emmys at the New York Hilton on Monday, when Olympic athletes, Hollywood stars and sports broadcasters came together for the 2008 Golden Goggle Awards. Gold medalist Michael Phelps, real estate magnate Donald Trump and noted broadcaster Bob Costas were just a few of the attendees at the black-tie affair, which featured dinner, a performance by the cast of “Stomp” and eponymous statuettes honoring the best in the sport.

“I’m traveling around, seeing some friends, having some of my own time to do what I want to do,” Phelps, who has taken home 14 Olympic gold medals to date, told red carpet reporters of his post-Olympic decompression. “It’s gonna be hard [to get back into shape], but it’s gonna be something that I know I have to do and I want to do. There are so many things that I still want to accomplish.”

Who says the economy is bad?

Diamond-studded jeans for bargain $10,000

LOS ANGELES, CA (Hollywood Today) 10/22/08 - “I make my own trends,” fashion designer Michael Hong told Hollywood Today exclusively. Key Closet, one of LA’s hottest jean designers for celebs is more than just a trend setter only the rich can afford, they are a socially conscience company dedicated to helping children in Uganda. Hong’s style and imagination are what set him apart from other jeans designers. “We don’t want to be a part of the masses,” he said.

Blue Tattoo Jeans, maker of stylish California clothing fit for Hollywood’s elite or a Harley Davidson is hosting Key Closet’s $10,000 diamond studded jeans in downtown Los Angeles.

Not every body in LA’s exclusive design world is against the masses. Blue tattoo owner and designer Jim Shaffer has a life long affection for tattoos and Harleys, something Hollywood has grown to love and respect in recent years. The trend and style Shaffer creates is unique, coating his fabric jeans with a secret material he wouldn’t divulge to Hollywood Today. “Doctors and lawyers are good for the biker industry,” said Shaffer. His jean fabrics look like leather pants but are comfortable cotton. “You really can’t tell the difference but the fabric is soft and comfortable to wear stretched out on a Harley while cruising the Sunset strip,” he said.

One of the great highlights to fashion week are the fashion shows and plenty of tall, longed legged models to walk down the runways. With lights and popping flash bulbs, Voom put on a show displaying their line of next spring’s fashions. Asian fusion and silky cottons Read the rest of this Hollywood Today story »

NEW YORK (Hollywood Today) 10/17/08 – Vertiginous heels, silky ties and camera flashes—the glitz and glamour was all for a good cause at the GQ Gentlemen’s Ball on Wednesday night at Manhattan’s Edison Ballroom. Stars were dressed to impress, as they highlighted their commitment to education, opportunity, mentorship, health and the environment. GQ magazine and The Gentlemen’s Fund hosted the gala, which featured a myriad of celebrities there to show their support for various benevolent endeavors.

Proud of his skull-themed moccasins, GQ’s “Better Men Better World Search” winner Blake Mycoski was hounded by eco-friends. They swooned over his organic lifestyle (he lives on a sailboat) and charity/business.

He spoke of his business model, “Buy a TOMS shoe and a pair is given to a child in need,” which has brought him both philanthropic Read the rest of this Hollywood Today story »
