Hollywood, CA (Hollywood Today) 12/10/13 - “I would say… people that would like our music are people that like Adele, who like Mumford and Sons, Taylor Swift or like Carrie Underwood”, explained Alexa James.

The 2013 L.A. Webfest awarded this Los Angeles based duo with Best Theme Song for a Comedy, which the Roamies performed at Hotel Café on December 3.

Though there were barely 75 people in the house, their pop-meets-country and Americana sound was really lovely and captivating, The music is sweet and has been described as ‘a concoction of The Civil Wars, Colbie Caillat and Jason Mraz, marrying hooky melodies, soulful harmonies.”

Inspired by the harmonies of Mraz and Caillat, they find they “hope that people will connect and feel that they’re not alone in their lives and experiences:” I’m a pretty laid back guy, right?  like for example in the mornings it take me a couple of hours to wake up before I want to talk to anybody.  And she wakes up and she’s like “gotta go, gotta go”.

Rory has a band and Alexa is a soloist. “I learned a few solos and then I learned some back up parts, because he takes singers with him on the road with those gigs.  So I only sing the back up parts and he’ll use me if I’m around,” she explained.

After several back-up gigs, “people just started asking for the CD, where are you together? And we’d say well we’re separate we’re really different so we finally got tired of the broken record of people asking please.  So that’s kind of where it started.  I think it was just a natural next step.”

Rory added this journey was, how our relationship kind of got into our music.  Which is a little bit unusual. I think when people are on stage often it’s this thing that they’re putting out there but we’re just really real on stage and sometimes maybe a little too real.”

Originally from Moss Bluff, Lousianna, Rory was a meat-eating, soul-food, Cajun kind of background and Alexa is a vegan, but these two manage to combine into a lovely duet of harmony and contradiction, which is evident when they perform.

The debut album and European tour begins in 2014, a lovely duet not to be missed. Follow them on Facebook and Twitter @TheRoamies.

Milano’s review had me checking out “The Roamies” on YouTube…expecting great things from the chemistry of these two. Like the photo during interview as well.
