Hollywood, CA (Hollywood Today) 12/7/13 - The 82nd Annual 2013 Red Carpet Parade and Christmas celebration went off down Hollywood Boulevard last Sunday with celebrities, performances, floats and marching bands along with a special salute to Disabled American Veterans.
The parade benefited the Marine Toys for Tots project and was sponsored by some wonderful local businesses like the Hollywood Hotel, KOST radio, Just Food For Dogs, Radio Disney, and Kay Jewelers.
Buzz Aldrin has had a long and fabulous life from walking on the moon in 1969 though serving at the Grand Marshall for 2013. High School and Elementary School Marching Bands from Southern California, Indiana, Arizona, Oklahoma and Georgia were joined by the 2st Marine Division Band and Total Force Honor Guard.
The parade was hosted by Laura McKenzie (“Laura McKenzie’s Traveler”) and Erik Estrada, (“CHiPs”, “American Adventurer”), with celebrity guest hosts Dean Cain and Montel Williams.
No parade is complete without the equestrian entries with their beautiful horses, riders and the Blue Shadows Mounted Drill Team of Agua Dulce.
The giant balloons were fantastic, even the Grinch flew high overhead. The parade cars drove by with the likes of Valerie Harper, Joey Lawrence, Melissa Joan Hart and other locals.
Performances by Billy Ray Cyrus (who started with homage to Paul Walker), Leann Rimes, Stevie Wonder and Richie Sambora on stage together plus the Goo Goo Dolls kept guest rocking and rolling in the holiday spirit, all to celebrate and benefit Toys For Tots. The best concert line-up I have seen since I have been covering the parade the last few year.
Author Services was, once again, host to the pre-party for the parade participants and their families. Food and drink and gift bags were flowing.
Last year, though there was generous love and giving, the toys ran out before the children did. Please donate a toy or book to your local Toys For Tots program and help carry on a fabulous tradition and spread the joy.
