A Beautiful Spirit Lost in the Dark By Valerie Milano Hollywood, CA (Hollywood Today) 6/13/2013 – “I curled my brown hair and put on the biggest push up bra I could find in my closet, and I went for it!,” says actress Agnes Bruckner speaking with Hollywood Today on her audition for the role of Anna Nicole Smith. Next Saturday, Lifetime Movie Network will air the film featuring Bruckner , The Craigslist Killer,  as the Playboy model turned celebrity who died from an overdose of prescription drugs in 2007. Appropriately titled The Anna Nicole Story, the film will account the life of a young woman who saw an opportunity to create a better existence for herself and her young son; but who paid the ultimate price for her wild and glamorous journey to the top. Though many remember Anna Nicole from her controversial marriage to now deceased big oil executive J. Howard Marshall, she had large modeling contracts with international brands like H&M and Guess; and was more notoriously named Playmate of the Year by Playboy Magazine. Smith also developed a solid acting career, appearing in films like Naked Gun 33 1/3, and even hosted the self-titled Anna Nicole Show from 2002 to 2004. Known for her outrageousness, flirtatious life loving personality and sexy resemblance to post modern celebrities like Marilyn Monroe and Jayne Mansfield, Smith’s rise to fame was truly a story in the making. Sadly, it is one she would not be able to tell herself, but the team at Lifetime Movie Network put forth a tremendous effort to create an accurate portrayal of Anna Nicole’s over the top personality and life. This week Agnes Bruckner, who was cast to play Anna Nicole, spoke with Hollywood Today about what is was like to take on the role of such an eccentric individual. “I worked with a voice coach and tried to; she definitely had this light and fun way of speaking – the physical transformation was unbelievable, we had one of the best makeup teams, we had cheek, boob and neck prosthetic and changed my looks probably three or four times a day.” – says Brucker. The 27-year-old actress, who made her debut in a recurring role as Bridget Forrester on The Bold and the Beautiful, has since appeared in a host of films and television shows like Private Practice and The Craigslist Killer. She credits her continued success as an actress to her soap opera beginnings and is thankful she has had so many amazing opportunities. “Being on a soap opera at a young age was a very important acting class. I really learned how to act on a set; I’ve taken all those things with me.” – Bruckner told Hollywood Today. Admittedly, she had some difficulty nailing Anna Nicole’s southern drawl and was a self-proclaimed tomboy who knew she’d have to find her inner girly girl. From the looks of the newly released movie trailers, she did just that and more; embracing the feminine elegance that attracted so many to the late Anna Nicole, but also embodying the presence of a woman who avoids her fear in the escape of intoxicants and bad behavior. The Anna Nicole Story airs on June 29th and it will be quite interesting to see Bruckner, along with her supporting cast featuring the likes of Adam Goldberg (Entourage) and Virginia Madsen (The Haunting in Connecticut) tell the real story of a beautiful spirit who lost her way in the dark.
