The Cable Show Chairman's Reception 2013 - Washington DC

Tiphany Adams and Milano at The Cable Show Chairman’s Reception 2013 – Washington D.C.

NCTA Chairman’s Reception By Valerie Milano Washington D.C. (Hollywood Today) 6/12/13 – They’re beautiful women, they’re extremely talented and they have a reality series. Not to mention or disregarded or even overly focused on, these lovely LA women offer a glimpse into the daily lives, loves, drama and dreams of four women living in wheelchairs on “Push Girls”. Season Two of this Sundance Channel reality show begins in June. This is a wonderful and inspiring program that may just offer viewers a different look at life. Maybe it will challenge your preconceived notions of being ‘disabled’. Maybe it will push you to tackle something hard in your life. Maybe inspire a newly injured person to start the day with a smile. Several of the “Push Girls”, (starring Auti Angel, Angela Rockwood, Tiphany Adams, and Mia Schaikewitz) joined Hollywood Today to chat at the Cable Show 2013 and discuss their thoughts and goals. Raised in Torrance, California, Auti Angel, actress, choreographer and back up dancer was just leaving a gig in 1992 when she was in a car accident. She told HT “it’s just an honor to be able to have a platform to share a different perspective on the human experience in itself.  You don’t have to be in a wheelchair to watch this show.  We (all) have relatable stories.  You know a woman married to her husband who is going through marriage counseling.  It’s relatable to anybody, any woman or any couple out there.  So, it’s awesome.” Angela Rockwood is a model and actress originally from New Mexico. After a devastating car accident, she battled back from a quadriplegic diagnosis to regaining most of her upper body motor functions. “The moment I was paralyzed -within that one second, you have to make a choice. That’s the one thing that every human being has is that choice. That essence of who you are. And within that moment when something catastrophic happens to you, whether it’s paralysis or disability, you make that decision to do something positive with your life to make a stand, embrace the moment, move forward and not be trapped in something negative.” Move forward is what she chose to do, “and with our show, Push Girls”, she explained, “people think that our confidence comes from our wheelchairs but it’s not. It’s our essence. It’s our drive. It’s who we are as women.” Inspirational words to HT from a strong woman: “whatever you’re going through just embrace it and be who you truly are and that will get you through anything. I think that’s what our show shows”, said Angela, “And it’s important to live life to the fullest.” PS: “Push Girls” won the award for Best Reality Series by the Critic’s Choice Awards just last night. Congratulations!
