4th Annual Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance is back May 5th Beverly Hills’ own automobile & motorcycle show is returning for one day. Photos & facts by Karen Ostlund Images are from Greystone Concours D’Elegance 2012   Beverly Hills, CA  (Hollywood Today) 04/22/2013 – On May 5th 2013  135 world-class automobiles will rev up historic Greystone Mansion.  Among them  two dozen Corvettes, a dozen Porsche RS models and a dozen Ferraris, including a 1951 212 Export.

The City of Beverly Hills’ Community Services Department and the Friends of Greystone will host the annual all-marquee Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance, which this year will be held on Sunday, May 5th, 2013. Event director is Cindy Brynan.

                                               2013 Concours d’Elegance will feature a full field of motorcycles and the rare opportunity to tour historic Greystone Mansion, which has served as the backdrop for countless motion picture and television productions.

The event is an annual fundraiser for the ongoing restoration and preservation of Greystone, one of only a few nationally registered historic landmarks in Southern California.       1930 Ford 2 door Coupe 1930 Ford 2 door Coupe                                          Greystone Mansion was designed by Gordon Kaufmann and built in 1928 by oil baron Edward Doheny for his son Ned Edward L. Doheny Jr.

The house was then sitting on 22 acres of choice real estate, took three years to build, of the cost 3.1 million dollars. Ned and his personal secretary Hugh Plunkett were both killed under somewhat mysterious circumstances in the house in February 16th 1929. It happened 6 months after Ned Doheny Jr., his wife and five children moved in. Secretary Hugh Plunkett shot and killed Edward L. Doheny Jr., only son and heir of the wealthy oilman Edward L. Doheny Sr. Plunkett then turned the gun on himself,   and committed suicide.

                                                      Since then, the mansion has hosted filming for The Big Sleep, The Social Network, and the bowling alley scene at the end of There Will Be Blood based on the book Oil!, which is based on the elder Doheny.

                        In anticipation of the upcoming Beverly Hills Centennial celebration, the 2013 Concours will have a special “Centennial Class” of cars built in model year 1914.

This year’s event will honor  the 60th anniversary of the Corvette and the 40th anniversary of the 1973 Porsche 911 RS as well as present classes featuring pre-war European and American classics with groupings for Ferrari, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Jaguar, Post-War American and British and Italian marques.

The Italian sports group will feature 1937 Jaguar SS100, a 1929 Bugatti Type 46 and 1933 Marmon, all classics – plus a 1956 Alfa Romeo, 1900 Zagato and 1961 Alfa Romeo Sprint Zagato. The Concours has been selected by the Lee Iacocca Foundation as the setting for the Foundation’s annual presentation of its coveted philanthropy award and the Greystone Concours is further honored to be one of the few car shows held in the United States that is endorsed by the Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA) and the Historic Vehicle Association (HVA).

Gooding & Company and the Petersen Automotive Museum are founding sponsors of the Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance. They are joined this year by Tiffany & Co,  Auto Gallery, Chubb Insurance, Ferrari Financial Services and O’Gara Coach. Admission tickets are all-inclusive and provide admission to the Concours and lecture series along with gourmet food, soft and hard beverages, a commemorative program and poster, a fashion show, awards ceremony and access to the vendor marketplace, estate grounds and inside the mansion. It also includes off-site parking, shuttle service and two-for-one entrance to the Peterson Automotive Museum. For more info; www.greystoneconcours.org
