They get the West Coast Zumba Instructor Conference moving

Los Angeles, CA (Hollywood Today) 2/17/13—“We have good support for [our instructors]…we send them music, we send them DVD’s, we send them everything because we want them to be successful. This is the most important [thing] for the company. That’s why they love Zumba, because they feel important,” Zumba co-founder Beto Perez told Hollywood Today on Friday of how they train their instructors during the red carpet event Friday night.
In true Zumba Fitness fashion, the dance-centered workout phenomenon that has taken the world by storm hosted its first West Coast Zumba Instructor Conference this weekend. More than 3,000 Zumba instructors from all over attended the star-studded event and danced the night away on Feb. 15 with an incredible concert featuring Pitbull and Lil Jon. Also joining them on stage were Zumba musicians J Perry, Mara and a crew of high-energy celebrity instructors including co-founder Beto Perez.
Zumba classes can be taken all over the world in thousands of locations and you don’t have to be a professional dancer to reap the benefits. Zumba.com describes their fitness sensation as “an exhilarating, effective, easy-to-follow, Latin-inspired, calorie-burning dance fitness-party that’s moving millions of people toward joy and health.” So it comes as no surprise that they would attract the attention of hip-hop artists like Pitbull and Lil Jon.
“I’ve been knowing about Zumba for a while and I started to get into it when people would send me YouTube videos on Twitter or tweet me or tag me on stuff and it was instructors teaching classes to some of the songs I was a part of. I thought it was real cool,” Lil Jon said of his involvement with Zumba.
Friday night’s performance debuted Lil Jon’s newest track created in partnership with Zumba called “Work”. Lil Jon said of his song, “I want [dancers] to have fun but I also want them to work. I want them to sweat so basically I’m telling them certain moves to do in the song. It was cool to do that and it’s going to be even cooler to see how they choreograph to that. Because you just give them the foundation and then let them paint the picture.”
This year, Lil Jon and celebrity instructor Gina Grant will be hosting special Zumba classes in nightclubs across the United States. The evenings will consist of Lil Jon DJing and emceeing and Gina Grant leading the class in the dance moves. “…It’s a bigger scale of a normal Zumba class, crazy sound system, and I think it’s going to be a lot more energy than people are normally used to in a Zumba class. It’s a cooler environment to burn calories in,” Lil Jon said about the nights.
Zumba not only attracts musical artists, but athletes as well. Miami Heat’s Mike Miller, owner of Let It Fly energy drinks, also attended the weekend’s events and commented on his appreciation of Zumba saying, “I’m no good at dancing, but it’s a great workout. Beto does a great job of making it fun and enjoying it which is a trick with anything…to get people motivated to workout and have fun doing it.”
Zumba will host to an even larger group of instructors in Orlando, Florida August 15-18 at their 2013 Zumba Instructor Convention. Find a class near you at www.zumba.com.
