Banda El Recodo to receive BMI Icon Award By Fredwill Hernandez HOLLYWOOD(Hollywood Today)2/13/13/–On Feb. 1,2013, Broadcast Music, Inc (BMI) announced that Regional Mexican act Banda El Recodo known as and considered ‘the mother of all bands,’ will receive the BMI Icon Award at the 20th annual BMI Latin Awards slated for March 21 at the Bellagio Hotel, Las Vegas. The BMI Awards recognize the songwriters and publishers of the past year’s most-performed Latin songs on American radio and television in the U.S. The band founded in 1938 by Cruz Lizárraga in Sinaloa, Mexico, will be recognized through a musical tribute honoring their indelible and unique influence that has expanded and influenced generations of music makers for more than 75 years. With this distinguished recognition the band join an elite list of past BMI Icons that include such Latin music giants as Gloria Estefan, Juan Luis Guerra, Gustavo Santaolalla, Carlos Santana, and Los Tigres Del Norte, as well as music legends Daryl Hall and John Oates, Isaac Hayes, Brian Wilson, Paul Simon, Dave Foster, Mariah Carey, Dolly Parton, and the late James Brown. Among the group’s list of accolades are Billboard Latin Awards, including Billboard’s Hall of Fame award for career achievement awarded in 2004 for 66 years of contributions to Regional Mexican music, Multiple BMI awards including most performed Latin song in 2009 for “Te Presumo,” Latin GRAMMY Awards in 2000 for Best Banda Song for “Lo Mejor de mi Vida”, Best Banda Album in 2001 for “Contigo por Siempre,” in 2004 for album “Por Ti,” in 2005 for album “En Vivo,” and also in 2010 for album “Me Gusta Todo De Ti,” GRAMMY Awards for Best Mexican-American Album for “No Me Se Rajar,” for Album “Por Ti,” for Album “Mas Fuerte Que Nunca,” and also for Album “Que Bonito… Es lo Bonito.” They are the most awarded Regional Mexican group at Premios Lo Nuestro, and have received awards from Monitor Latino for “Song of the Year,” and also Premios Oye! for Best Banda. They have been the first Regional Mexican group to perform at the White House, to visit and perform in five continents and achieve record sales exceeding 23 million copies. They also have been the only group to perform at three World Cups in support of the Mexican National Soccer Team and to have their own day both in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
