Santa Monica, CA(Hollywood Today)2/7/13/—A woman’s shoe….what does it bring to mind? For artist Charles Swenson it holds a fascination of sorts…. an alluring sensual work of art unto itself. The classic nude is a recognized and respected concept in the art world. Swenson merges the two. Most would not think of combining these two elements, but for Swenson, the allure of the shoe holds as much passion as the nude figure.
In an upcoming show at haleARTS S P A C E, the work of Charles Swenson will be featured as part of a special Valentine’s Day exhibition entitled “Love & Lust.” High- heeled shoes or stiletto boots steal the focus of the painting as they appear to float in the foreground of a nude form. Swenson’s series “Nudes and Shoes” was created in two parts. He painted the nudes back in 2007 and within the last few months has added to them… transforming the original paintings into completely new works of art.
Charles Swenson has had a successful career working as an animator and as a creative director for film and TV shows such as “Rugrats,” “Santo Bugito,” and “Aahhh!! Real Monsters.”

The annual show at haleARTS S P A C E attracts couples in addition to art lovers and collectors. Last year’s show “Love and Lust” was a huge success. Owner Michael Hale reminisces, “We definitely promoted the show as LOVE & LUST…so the theme of gentle LOVE was as well received as the provocative LUST. The patrons of the show enjoyed the theme… “
Hale continues, “The body of work included in this year’s show further explores the relationships of fetishes, literal love, and intimate sensuality.”
Nudes and Shoes are a perfect addition to the annual Valentine’s show. “Women’s shoes, have a wonderfully decadent, fetish-y quality that I love….especially the high- heeled variety. They look dangerous and delicious at the same time,” laughs Swenson.
Charles is currently enjoying a solo show at Barbara’s West at the Brewery, located at 620 Moulton Avenue #110, Los Angeles, CA 90031. The exhibition will be on view through the first week of March. http://charlesgswenson.com/
