PanelpicIt is no secret the industry is changing form By Valerie Milano Hollywood, CA (Hollywood Today) 1/4/2013 – “At the end of the day, compelling experiences are going to rate and basically succeed.” – Albert Cheng, EVP, Digital Media & Chief Product Officer of Disney Media Group on the current trends in entertainment and digital media. This past Wednesday, January 2nd, Internet based networking organization Digital LA got the year off to an excellent start by hosting the Hollywood Harvard Panel at Busby’s East in the Wilshire district and Hollywood Today was there to cover it. The panel, which consisted exclusively of Harvard alumni who currently hold executive positions at some of the largest media outlets in the US, was organized as an opportunity to share information about the impact of digital technology on the entertainment and media industry. Speakers included Albert Cheng, Rob Swartz, Vice President of Original Series at Cartoon Network, Jessica Schell, Executive Vice President of Global New Media and Digital Distribution for Universal and Bill Edwards of Fox Entertainment, amongst others. Together they provided invaluable insight on the correlation between mobile networking and digital television as well as career advice for those looking to get in as the digital media industry continues to develop. Digital LA is a perfect example of one of the very popular current trends in the industry. Existing as an outlet for those who have been and are becoming increasingly involved in digital professions ranging from movies and television to social media, the platform they have created provides a space to network online, followed up with events and opportunities to share expertise and talent, face to face, real time. The Hollywood Harvard Panel, along with the Silicon Beach Fest, Digital Media Panels and a host of cocktail mixers and parties, give just a snapshot of the work that Digital LA has been up to. The fact that this organization has come to fruition is a telling sign that the way we communicate, gather information and entertain ourselves has been eternally changed. Speakers from the Hollywood Harvard Panel are on the front lines of understanding these new technologies and ensuring that they are effectively applied to the appropriate components of the major corporations who employ them. In fact, they hold those positions due to their insight and ability stay ahead of the game in this ever shape-shifting environment we call digital technology. “I like to celebrate the successes of digital innovators via our Digital LA panels, where speakers share cutting-edge use of digital and social media tools for movies, music, web series, games, and more. This is the best practice for info sharing and helps us use digital and social media better and smarter.” Says Kevin Winston, Founder of Digital LA and moderator for the Hollywood Harvard Panel told Hollywood Today. Though it is no secret the industry is changing form, with companies like Digital LA providing resources and networking events throughout the city and worldwide, there is every opportunity to become informed and engaged.
