Money is not the problem, says one investor. It’s speed, how fast you execute.
“The typical angel, whether TCA, Maverick Angels or Pasadena Angels, will invest $25 to $50k per deal,” says Maverick Angels southern California chapter president Patrick Henry. “All the investors in SoCal share information through Gust.com. It’s a must see.” Gust.com is a website that investors can join and that lists angel and venture groups. Angel investors typically seek a return of 5x to 10x on investments and within five to seven years.
At the Maverick Angels event, half a dozen members of the audience who submitted business cards were chosen at random to give pitches in front of the crowd. Around 200 entrepreneurs and investors filled the seats of the large meeting room at Cross Campus. One of the entrepreneurs pitching was Jeff Gund, who runs the Hollywood InfoList. Another pitch was by Zhena Muxyka, a business adviser who gave a pitch on behalf of one of her clients.
Entrepreneurs, investors and media attending the event included Living Advantage executive director Pamela Clay, Dumurei.com publisher Sidney Mejia, Thunder Mounts founder Gus Estravit, Iris.tv founder Field Garthwaite, Bellavita co-founders Julia Leytes and Kari Issairs, Hollywood Agency CEO Max Davids, and Your Office Agent VP Brian Mac Mahon.
