Venice, CA(Hollywood Today)11/18/12/—Baron Wolman-Rolling Stone’s First Photographer-opened his new gallery Saturday night. The reception was packed with Rockers, Photography Lovers and many beautiful women and handsome men. Wolman visited with his guests and graciously posed for photos including with this reporter. One of my favorite photos is of Mick Jagger holding a Polaroid camera. Other outstanding photos at the gallery include those of Janis Joplin, Pink Floyd, Johnny Cash (smoking a cigarette), Jerry Garcia showing off his 1/2 finger, and a Jimi Hendrix collage. Of special interest is a display of Wolman’s photos along side Rolling Stone magazine covers in which the photos appeared. Two generations of legendary music photographers-Jimmy Steinfeldt of Hollywood Today and best known for his photos of Madonna, Michael Jackson, Nirvana), and Baron Wolman the first photographer for Rolling Stone magazine and best known for his photos of Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Rolling Stones) . http://www.fotobaron.com/ Launch party for the opening of the Baron Wolman Gallery. As Rolling Stone magazine’s first photographer, Baron is royalty among music photographers. LA has become the host city for his only official gallery. His 1960s works of Jimi Hendrix, Mick Jagger, Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin, Johnny Cash and others have become iconic photographsI’ve admired Wolman throughout my photography career and gleaned some useful advice during our meeting. I mentioned that I liked his photograph of Steve Miller. Wolman told me that during that photo-shoot there happened to be a feather lying around and Wolman asked Miller to hold the feather over his eye. Of course this photo became the Anthology album cover. The lesson here is ‘find a prop, and go with whatcha got’.
