Los Angeles, CA(Hollywood Today)10/14/12/—For two hours Patti Smith performed many of her best known songs including “Because the Night,” ”Kimberly,” “Dancing Barefoot,” and her cover of “Gloria”. She also sang many songs from her new album “Banga” including “Maria”. The show included much story telling by Smith including how she penned her hit song “Because the Night” based on a cassette tape she got from record producer Jimmy Iovine back in 1978. Bruce Springsteen had written the music and chorus but no lyrics and Smith, inspired by what Springsteen had started, created a hit song.
Her band includes her long time guitarist/composer Lenny Kaye, her long time drummer Jay Dee Daugherty, her son Jackson Smith (also on guitar) and Tony Shanahan on bass and keyboards. Flea, the bassist for the Red Hot Chili Peppers joined Smith and the band for the last several songs and finally Johnny Depp joined in on electric guitar for the final numbers.
This was surely one of Smith’s best performances ever in the City of Lights.
Patti Smith, accompanied by her band and special guest Johnny Depp, performs “People Have The Power” live at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles, CA, on October 12, 2012.
