Universal City, CA (Hollywood Today) 9/22/12 – Alice Cooper began the presentation of the final award of the evening addressing the audience, “Good evening my little, sick things.” Director Guillermo Del Toro commented upon reaching the podium, “I took the steps to the stage and was afraid of falling – now that would have been true horror!”
If you’re a fan of the horror genre, Universal City kicked off the annual “Halloween Horror Nights” on September 21 with the Eyegore Awards, hosted by SyFy’s “Face Off”, honoring those making an impact on most freakishly scary moments in the horror field.
Emcee and host of “Face Off”, McKenzie Westmore, introduced the sickest minds in the industry with special guests including Alice Cooper, Chad Michael Murray, Wilmer Valderrama, Sid Haig and Bill Mosely.
The house was packed with 300+ recipients, guests and media all laughing and enjoying the buffet and full bar throughout the evening. It was my pleasure being seated next to Murray and across from the Grimm cast.
After the awards, Cooper and the guests went on to the park to wander (or run) through the scariest mazes in Los Angeles. It was reported he went through the “Goes to Hell” maze three times and mingled with the visitors.
The Universal HHN continues through October 31 showcasing the interactive, fantastic and disturbing creatures designed to scare the pants off you. The special effects team of mastermind and Extreme Hollywood horror make up artist, Larry Bones partnered up with Creative Director, John Murdy to bring and incredibly spooky event to life (and death), night after night.
The different experiences are based on award winning horror films and include the popular “Bill & Ted’s Excellent Halloween Adventure”, which was the longest wait of the night for the press and front of the line pass holders about 1 hour. Also the theme park rides, “Transformers™: The Ride –3D,” “Jurassic Park® In the Dark,” “The Simpsons RideTM” and “Revenge of the MummySM – The Ride.”
“Welcome to Silent Hill,” based on the popular video games and film franchise; “Alice Cooper Goes to Hell 3D,” a new 3D maze (my personal favorite), “La Llorona: Cazadora de Niños,” #LaLloronaDiaries based on the terrifying Hispanic ; the stinky smell in the maze but always popular classic “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Saw is The Law,” a maze based on Tobe Hooper’s 1974 horror film.
The twisted minds of horror designed a 3-D world of mazes and Scare Zones at the Universal Studios lot, home to the Psycho House and other significant horror properties. The Terror Tram brought us on a back lot tour and we definitely had to watch out for the flesh-eating zombies and chain saws running after our feet. Center Stage presents the newest maze of fright, The Walking Dead: Dead Inside.
