Los Angeles, CA(Hollywood Today)9/8/12/—“Look more deeply…notice the complexities of life…enrich yourself with the wonders that surround you at each moment.” This is the artist’s response to her latest photography exhibition “Reflecting Reality.” Carol’s work in photography is the culmination of over forty years of creating art in sculpture, glass, water colors, collage, oils and construction. Her passion and love of travel led her to a moment of discovery.
While on a train in Russia twenty years ago, she was captivated by the different layers of reflection she was viewing in the windows of the train. As the world passed by, the trail of layered images was intriguing. She was inspired to begin photographing those images in glass, shooting single exposure and using little equipment.
Carol grew up in Hawaii on the island of Oahu and in San Francisco. In “Water Reflection” and “Portal to Paradise” to name a few, one may be transported to the tranquil, welcoming setting that is Hawaii. Viewing herself as a documentary photographer, the artist finds the most exciting thing about the work is the presentation of a moment in time-what she sees through the lens in the moment of the click of the camera, we see in the photograph. The photographs are then printed on canvas to blur the lines between photography and painting. Seeking truth reflected in windows, Carol captured images in Moscow, Paris, Barcelona, New York and right here in Santa Monica.
The exhibit is currently up with a reception on Saturday September 15th 5-8pm TAG Gallery, 2525 Michigan Ave. D-3 (Bergamot Station) Santa Monica, 90404
