The City of Beverly Hills third annual Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance returns to the historic former Doheny Family Estate on May 6, 2012 from 10:00am-4:00pm.
This event appeals every year to car and motorcycle collectors, socialites and automotive professionals. Car owners do the exhibition for free, but money is made if the car is sold. It is also important the car is drivable from the trailer to the event.
“For many antique car owners, going away a week with your car means gaining ten pounds”, because networking, eating & drinking is an important factor when you sell an antique car.
The Greystone Estate was built by the Doheny family who lived in the mansion from 1928 to 1955. The Doheny silver on display is worth a million dollars and was taken to the mansion with help of guards. The set of two demitasse cups, each with a photo of bride and groom, was originally from the wedding of Edward Laurence Doheny Jr. and Lucy Smith, Tim Doheny parents. The gift was donated by Mrs. Tim Doheny.
The show will feature more than 150 vintage, rare and unique automobiles and is fast becoming one of the most prestigious concours events in the United States.
Designated as an official “Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens” (FIVA) event, the Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance is one of only a handful of car shows in the United States that have received this distinction. Internationally renowned and respected for their precision and expertise, FIVA’s endorsement of the 2012 Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance speaks volumes of the quality and excellence of the vehicles that will be on display.
A 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C 2300 Short Chassis Zagato Spyder will be among the 2012 show highlights. This extremely rare car is one of the only 2.3 Alfa Romeo’s in existence with its original coachwork still intact.
Additional highlights include a 1939 Bugatti Type 57C Coupe, believed by many to be the most original type 57 in the world today; a 1954 Alfa Romeo 1900 SS Zagato, one of 39 ever made; a 1972 Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’ originally owned by legendary American gun manufacturer William Ruger; a 1925 Hispano Suiza H6B and a 1930 Cadillac 452A.
The 2012 Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance will feature 13 automobile categories including Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, Porsche, Pre-War American, Post-War American, Ferrari, Corvette, Pre-war Rolls Royce, Rolls-Royce/Bentley, European Classics, Post-War British, Italian Sports, and Ford ‘Performance’.
The Greystone Mansion Concours d’Elegance will also feature lecture programming. Four lectures will take place, beginning at 11:00 a.m. and continue one per hour at 12:00 p.m., 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m.
Speakers include Donald Osborne and contributing editor of Sports Car Market Magazine, who will speak about the “Top 10 Reasons Not to Buy in the Current Market, & 10 Why You Must”.
Carl Bomstead, Sr. auction analyst of Sports Car Market Magazine will talk about the art of Automobilia, and Margaret Leslie Davis, author of Dark Side of Fortune, will explain about the history of Greystone Mansion, and the infamous Doheny family murder.
MOTORCYCLE HIGHLIGHTS in 2012:
1970 Husqvarna 400 Cross (formerly owned by Steve McQueen)
2000 Harley Davidson Military
1972 Harley Davidson Baja 100
1959 Honda CL 175
1959 BMW R69
.A 1970 Husqvarna 400 Cross will be among the 2012 show highlights, which is
formerly owned by Steve McQueen and currently on display at the San Diego Auto
Museum.
The motorcycle has been gently restored by current owner Rob Phillips.
Amid restoration, Phillips’ repair team found an “uncirculated” 1960 Lincoln head penny
in a small round plastic case tucked away in the cavity between the engine and frame.
Whether the coin was placed there for luck is uncertain, because it is dated in the same year as McQueen’s son, Chad was born. The coin’s placement and the personal
connection to McQueen adds to the unique character of this motorcycle.
Chad McQueen is expected to attend the 2012 Greystone Mansion Concours
d’Elegance in support of the 1970 Husqvarna that belonged to his father.
Additional motorcycle highlights include: a 2006 Boss Fly, 1974 Harley Davidson SX
