Leonardo DiCaprio, Steven Spielberg and “Angel Donors” Buy “The Wizard of Oz” Ruby Slippers

Los Angeles, CA (Hollywood Today) 02/22/12—Leonardo DiCaprio and a group of “angel donors,” including director Steven Spielberg, purchased one of four known surviving pairs of ruby red slippers worn by Judy Garland in 1939 classic “The Wizard of Oz.”

This pair of ruby slippers will be displayed in the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures inside the historic May Company building.  It is believed to be the pair used in the scene where Garland’s character Dorothy clicked her heels three times to go from the land of Oz to her home in Kansas.

“The ruby slippers occupy an extraordinary place in the hearts of movie audiences of the world over,” Bob Iger, president and CEO of the Walt Disney Co. “This is a transformative acquisition for our collection.”

It’s not known how much was paid for the famous slippers. At least now, they have a place called “home.”
