Hollywood,CA(Hollywood Today)1/22/12/— A documentary film about the making of the Doors final album and probably their best as well, had its world premier at the Egyptian Cinema in Hollywood on Friday night. The Doors have always been a Hollywood band, and the appearance of Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger added a lot of luster to the sold out event, with some real die hard Doors fans applauding every song when it appeared in sequence in the film.
However the musicians were joined on stage by such other Doors luminaries as producer Bruce Botnik and Jac Holzman of Elektra Records, who signed the band after some urging from Arthur Lee of Love.
Legendary DJ Jim Ladd hosted the event, and he is well represented in the film giving his thoughts on every song on the album, and in particular the title track which according to Ladd, “represents the underbelly and the seamy side of Los Angeles like no other song.”
Drummer John Densmore, who apparently still has an open invitation to rejoin the band on their Russian tour which will happen in June, is also featured in the film. He still seems bitter that Jim Morrison virtually self destructed with drink and ended the band, but like the other members he also acknowledged that Morrison was great fun to be around when he was sober, along with being a brilliant poet.
Another titbit for fans was the confession that Holzman was determined to keep The Doors on Elektra for that final record, although to get that deal done he had to give up half of their publishing.
