The original gospel stage play “Sugar Momma’s” will be the 6th in a series that GMC has brought on, with 7 more on tap for this year.

The Gospel Music Channel was launched in 2004 And airs family oriented, “uplifting entertainment” with a positive message.  Created by the son of televangelist Rex Humbard, Charles was to offer an alternative to regular daily programming.

“Sugar Mommas” is about 2 sisters, played by Vanessa Williams and Terri Vaughn, who find themselves at different places in their lives and decide to start a business together doing something they both love: baking. The cast is rounded out by their pie-making friend, played by Rachel True and the Sugar Mommas are borne.

Ms. Williams told HT about doing a gospel musical “it’s like church. So there’s the element of God and the uplifting nature of it. You know it’s going to end in an uplifting way. You get the comedy. You get the music, so it’s a real way to celebrate and be faithful in this very entertaining story, and lives that you can relate to, issues that you can relate to.”

Ms. Vaughn said “I love that GMC is allowing us to bring this voice to life because I feel like it’s an audience that’s not served.”

“And because it’s a woman’s issue,” added Williams, “it resonates with all women who are in these various stages of life.”
