Killers Rainmakers Storm the stage,
thunder and lightning performance

Any British person will tell you to expect the worse from London’s unpredictable summer weather over the Wimbledon tennis championship. It’s tradition. Umbrellas on ‘Centre Court’ a familiar sight the world over. What a week then for the English to host The Kings of Leon, The Killers, Bon Jovi, Bob Dylan and Mr. Rod Stewert, all performing open to the elements at London’s most central of green spaces -Hyde Park. This all happening while Bono, Chris Martin and Beyonce are focussing on the real festival goers at Worthy Farm, Glastonbury. The UK has a rich heritage of live out door music – but even by British standards, this is one hell of a week. Last night it was Brandon Flowers and co’s turn to entertain the rain soaked masses in London as part of the Hard Rock Calling event, headlining after Kasabian and The Kills. They didn’t disappoint. The set list was a crowd pleaser.
The band have been exploring their own creative directions as of late. Indeed Brandon Flowers will continue on to other European festivals from here as a solo act. The band decided to keep their ever faithful UK following happy with sing-a-longs predominantly from Hot Fuss and Sam’s Town. ‘Indie Rock and Roll’, ‘Smile like you mean it’, ‘Somebody told me’, ‘Mr Brightside’, ‘Read my mind’ all echoed across the London park to Marble Arch. There were some album tracks, but on the whole plenty for the crowd to enjoy. Their time exploring individual ambitions is beginning to show though. We are promised new Killers material soon. Until then, they still pack the crowds in – whatever the weather.
80 degrees and sunny skies are promised for Sunday in Southern England. That should make good reading for the slightly more mature Rod Stewert fans gathering in the capital on Sunday. Living in England myself, I wouldn’t bet on it!
