“The best country singer I heard in 30 years.” JC
Recorded live to tape without digital “enhancements.”
New York,NY(Hollywood Today)6/22/11/—The album is out via New York-based indie L.E.S. (Lower East Side) Records and is simply titled Greg Garing. To suggest that Greg is a cult artist is a natural reflex when one considers the breadth of his career, if one could call his pure pursuit of authentic music a career. The fact is, with over three decades in the music industry, Greg Garing has inspired two generations of musicians with his unique blend of country, bluegrass, rockabilly, and honky-tonk. At 19, back in his hometown of Erie, PA, Greg heard the music of Bill Monroe. He immediately set a course for Nashville; a town upon which he would have a significant impact in the succeeding years.
In a short time, Greg went on to become an iconic figure within the Nashville scene with his residency at the storied Lower Broadway institution Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge. While at Tootsie’s, Greg assembled the best pickers around to revive and pay tribute to the traditional sensibilities of his idols. Greg would gain notoriety for his mastery of every stringed instrument, and for having a stage presence second to none. No less a light than The Man In Black, himself, the great Johnny Cash, called Greg “The best country singer I heard in 30 years.” After playing a disproportionate role in Nashville’s real country and bluegrass scene for quite a few years, he set back up North to re-create his “Opry-Style” format in New York City. 9C, in Manhattan’s East Village, would become the venue where the premier players in New York would come to listen and if lucky enough, to sit in with Greg’s “Alphabet City Opry”.
With today’s release of his seventh album, Greg Garing has continues to build his legacy and once again take his place at the top of country and bluegrass worlds. He’s a veritable hurricane on stage with his natural ability to play and sing anything and the new album is a true reflection of that talent insofar as it was recorded live to tape without digital “enhancements.”
