HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 2/27/11 – The Social Network lead Jesse Eisenberg work a black suit cut and skinny black tie. Some thought he looked a little nerdish, but given his role as a computer geek in the film, it seemed appropriate.
In keeping with the apparent theme of Year of the Shoulders on Red Carpet, Jennifer Lawrence showed plenty of shoulder and Virginia Madsen wore a frilly black and white off-the-shoulder.
Two-time Oscar winner Kevin Spacey thanked the fans in the bleachers saying “many of spend days to get those seats, and they are like friends.”
It takes most popular stars up to an hour to travel 50 feet down the carpet and first timers who want to be fashionably late find themselves with camera-time. Tom Hanks or Natalie Portman can get away with it, you can’t.
Annette Bening said we arrived nice and Warren Beatty said his wife “was the best actress in the world and an amazing mother and wife. I just try to be worthy.”
Anne Hathaway wore a vintage Valentino on both her trim body and her arm as she walked the red carpet with the designer (now semi-retired) himself.
Mark Wahlberg producer of The Fighter said “It was incredibly hard to get made. We put together a great team of actors, and even though I was the leader, I was lucky to get such fine talent.”
Best actor front-runner Colin Firth walked the red carpet with The King’s Speech co-star Geoffrey Rush.
When asked what he thought if they came home with matching Academy Awards, Rush said “As long as they came from the same mold.” On a cautionary note he said “There is precedence of upsets at the Oscars, yet if we won nothing, this film has scored with audience and our working relationship.
Colin Firth added “We have riches already.”
“It’s just fun to be here,” said Robert Downey Jr. “There is absolutely no pressure to be a presenter,” he added with tongue-firmly-in-cheek.
Natalie Portman said “it was just a thrill to see how passionately people reacted to the film.” The Black Swan best actress front-runner said It was just an honor to be taught ballet by the finest people in the world.”
Presenter Sandra Bullock said “When an actor gets to this point, actors bond together and get nervous. So we just want to finish together.”
Speaking from the Green Room, Halle Berry, said “It never gets old, I like to see everyone dressed up. Showing themselves as they are or see themselves.” She is making her Broadway debut soon.
Tom Hanks said “Whether you win or lose all sound shuts down. All you hear is ‘kchunga, kchunga’ and if you can hear your name being called, it is all you can do to make it up the steps.”
It is now 5:30 pm and Game On!
