HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 1/25/11 – There were a few raised eyebrows at the Oscar nomination announcement this morning but there are likely to be more surprises at the Academy Awards on Feb. 27.
True Grit, a guy’s fave film filled its hand with 10 nominations, former winners Joel and Ethan Cohen are up for four new Golden Boys and what most critics and the Golden Globes said was best pic was a wallflower in many categories.
Since most pundits are picking Social Network as the leader at the dance for top film, we have news for you. Hollywood Today is firmly predicting King’s Speech for best picture. Already the guilds like the PGA are snubbing Social – and they are among the real voters.
Yet Socialite fans should be happy that the film will not go home empty-handed. The motion picture will likely win for its adapted screenplay or director David Fincher or even actor Jesse Eisenberg with its ten noms.
Yet young Jesse will have serious, perhaps insurmountable completion.
The real royalty on film’s biggest night will be The King’s Speech which led with 12 nominations and there is little doubt Colin Firth will take best actor. In addition the whole court was nominated, giving the film a momentum few film’s enjoy.
Our best actress choice is Natalie Portman for Black Swan, with the dark horse being Annette Bening fot The Kids are All Right, but don’t count on it.
Original screenplay is likely the King, though don’t count out The Fighter or pugilist Christian Bale for best supporting actor.
Pint-sized Hailee Steinfeld from True Grit is our personal pick for best supporting actress for her gritty role – and you can’t count out Rooster Cogburn and crew in any category.
