NEW YORK ALTERNATIVE ROCK BAND THE UPWELLING REMEMBERS SEPTEMBER 11, 2001
New York, NY(HollywoodToday) September 9, 2010—As we approach the ninth anniversary of the devastation of September 11, 2001, it’s important to remember the effects that echoed throughout the country, and those who were lost. Alternative rock trio The Upwelling have taken the time to express their sentiments nine years later with the release of their video “Ladder 116,” with proceeds going to the New York Police & Fire Widow’ & Children’s Benefit Fund.
The song pays homage to the Queens-based Ladder 116, of which the band shared a friendship. The company was held in the Midtown tunnel the day of the tragedy, due to a security warning which inevitably saved their lives. Two members, however, Paul Gill and Thomas Casoria, worked on rotation for their engine company, and were two of the many brave heroes who lost their lives. This song, and its corresponding music video, remembers these two and the many others who were lost, as well as the legacy of the World Trade Center.
The video for “Ladder 116” is a compilation of footage of the construction of the Twin Towers, in addition to video clips of employees of all races and creeds working in the buildings. It captures the iconic center that represented the essence of New York City to the world and that pumped life blood into various worldwide fields, from finance and insurance to commerce and public media.
Ari wrote “Ladder 116” that day, and shortly after contacted his brother Joshua to form The Upwelling. Bassist Mike “Showtime” Mullieri joined later. In 2009, the song was recorded and included as the final track on their debut album An American Stranger (Edmond/DogHouse Records), with songs produced by Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind and Tyson Ritter of The All-American Rejects.
The New York Police & Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund was formed in 1985, and since its inception, it has distributed over $123 million to the families of New York City police officers, fire fighters, and emergency medical service workers, who were killed in the line of duty.
