VENICE, ITALY (Hollywood Today) 09/04/10 — Director John Woo was given a Golden Lion for Life Time Achievement at the Venice Film Festival.
Woo, who built his directorial reputation on Hong Kong action thrillers, was described as “an innovator of the contemporary language of cinema.”
Woo, 64, was shocked to be given this award, saying, “I wouldn’t say that I have much contributed to film society, even though I made several good films.”
Woo started his directing career in Hong Kong during the 1970s and moved to Hollywood during the 1990s.
He has directed more than 25 films in the last three decades, and includes hits such as “Broken Arrow,” and “Mission Impossible II.”
