TV Land

The third season of TV Land’s “She’s Got the Look” airs (Aug. 25th) tonight with an entire new look. This year the contest will be feature new host, Brooke Burke in a new city, Los Angeles with a new judge, Roshumba Williams in search of an over 35, sophisticated, confident woman. Through a series of competitions and eliminations, the winner is transformed into a successful model with a contract.
The past two season’s winners are working in the industry, and truly, selling wrinkle reducers and cosmetics to the over-35 set is much better done by women of the over-35 set. In our interviews done @ a recent press tour, Roshumba explained further, “when you look at the customer that buys from this woman, that customer is looking for someone that they can identify with”. Executive producer Allison Grodner said, “women have made such progress in the last few decades, where they are Supreme Court Justices and running for President and Vice President and just all these wonderful things that are happening, and the reality is they’re not interested in wearing their daughters’ jeans anymore. They want to be represented for who they are with women who represent their age ranges, and these are basically the cream of the crop because, not only do they have the beauty, but they also have the background.”
Women over 35 seem to be very interested at their “second chance”, and although the 72 year old contestant didn’t make it to the final 10, all aged women are still coming to the auditions. Grodner said, “We had actually thousands this time around, and it’s definitely increased each season. There’s no doubt about it. Word gets out. There really isn’t another show for this age group, and there are women out there, and there is this dream, and we get them lined up around the block in all the cities we go to.”
The process of meeting the women and watching the contests and witnessing their growth is not all there is, additionally it strikes a deeper chord. Brooke Burke explained this season is also different “because it was really about self-discovery, and we were looking for a diamond in the rough. It was amazing to work with a group of women that were really discovering things about themselves. And a lot of these women had not modeled before. It wasn’t as if they were returning to a career that they gave up. They were really finding their confidence and figuring out what they wanted to do with their lives, and they had such a zest for life, and it was an amazing experience. I learn something every day on this show, and I think whether you have an interest in the modeling world or not, it was amazing to watch the transformation happen to these women.”
Burke was approached to host “She’s Got the Look” and was on board for many reasons. “I was very passionate about this opportunity because I fully believe in that, and I believe in second chances, and I know personally coming from a modeling background, that’s how I got started in the industry, that there’s more opportunities today for women in my age bracket than ever before. I think a healthy lifestyle sees no age. I think it’s really about that whole image in totality, and I was really excited to get on board and do something that I believe in, and I mentor the women a little bit on hosting the show or we work together giving them some advice. There’s a very healthy message, and when you’re dealing with women, we didn’t really see a lot of that cattiness that you see on some of the younger model shows, which was refreshing for me.”
Burke was inspired “working on this show so much, I think that women are going to be able to relate to that quite a bit, modeling, not modeling. It’s a feel-good show.”
