HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 8/15/2010 – “Everyday I wake up excited about the day, and every night I go to bed excited about tomorrow,” says Body by JAM Yogametrics instructor Jamie Alexandra Murphy.  “I feel lucky to be doing what I love.”

“Yogametrics is a very dynamic form of yoga,” says Murphy. “With sequences of poses in movement, such as Dancing Warrior and Clockwork, designed to maximize the number of calories burned and evenly work muscles so that they appear longer. Unlike most types of yoga, Yogametrics is not contained to a 2×7 mat. There’s a lot of movement from one end of the rooftop to the other. I teach only private yoga lessons and classes at events for Tao Athletic Club.”

Murphy teaches private yoga lessons on the beach in Malibu or at the top of Runyon Canyon. She and her mother with awards last summer presented by Governor Arnold Schwartzenegger for performing CPR to save a man’s life that had a stroke on the beach. “I did the breaths and my mom did the chest pumps to bring him back,” says Murphy. “The next day I got a call from the family asking if I had any communicable diseases they should be worried about…What?! That was a good laugh, but it was nice to be recognized later.”

“Yoga was introduced to me when I was 16 years old at Premiere Fitness, a health club my Mother managed in Ashtabula, Ohio,” says Murphy. “I took my first class and fell in love because it felt similar to gymnastics which I had been competitive in throughout grade school. My mom, Cathy Serif, has mentored me every step of the way. She’s the creator of The Desert Detox Diet and Balanced Training Boot camp. My mom’s book, The Desert Detox Diet, is set to be released this September.”

At age 18 Murphy was hosting “Jamie and Jessie’s Top 7 at 7“ on Clear Channel radio WZOO-FM 102.5 in Ashtabula, about 50 miles east of Cleveland, Ohio. She began teaching on class at the health club on Sundays using her fast music play list from her radio show that aired the night before. In 2008 she started adding her own poses in movement or sequences.

“Body By JAM is a lifestyle not just an hour of Yogametrics practice,” says Murphy. “It’s how you sleep, eat, drive, work even how you breathe. Most students come to me when they have a red carpet event or a wedding to get ready for. With these types of motivation its easy to have fun and get a lot done. Seeing the positive effects that this practice has on me and the people around me inspires me to keep doing it everyday.”

“I start my day with just ten to twenty minutes of yoga and stretching every morning,” says Murphy. “It gets me even more excited about the day.  Tao Athletic Club is the home of Body by JAM and special to me because we are a big, happy, crazy family. I never know what festivities will be going on when those elevator doors open…even if it’s 6am.”

Murphy says that with only 30,000 days in the average humans lifespan, we all need to make each and every day count. Besides yoga, Murphy likes to paint and is writing a screenplay. She worked with Mel B. and Giant TV on Mel B’s totally fit DVD. She’s working on producing her own Yogametrics DVDs and designing a line of yoga wear.

The TAO Athletic Club is located in the penthouse at 8500 Wilshire Blvd., Los Angeles, 310-652-0085.
