The Baddest Mother on Stage  Sammy Hagar & the Waboritos

By Michael  Cohan
Irvine,CA(HollywoodToday)08/6/2010–When Sammy Hagar & the Waboritos hit the Pacific Ampitheater stage
Wednesday night, August 4, there was Only One Way to Rock for this
very versatile musician and his highly acclaimed backing band, the
Wabos!  The proclaimed Red Rocker and his entourage of old friends and
new friends had this party going for nearly two hours.  Sammy
repeatedly told  the crowd, “set list, what set list!”  The band is
celebrating 20 years of rockin” proving Hagar  is much younger as he
approaches his 63rd birthday.  The sound was fresh but the songs were
laden with rock history.  Their catalog is immeasurable incorporating
his solo music,  Montrose, Van Halen, and more!

Hagar , the consummate performer and entertainer was actually very
funny and the crowd attentive.  He told many stories.  We laughed  and
sang with the band hardly ever sitting down.   More songs were also
included from Red Voodoo including this writers’ favorite Tu Mas
Tequila, Shag, and  more!  More, more, and more seemed to be the theme
this evening and it always works with  Sammy!  He never disappoints.

The second half of the show kicked into maximum overdrive when
Michael Anthony of Van Halen was introduced.  They performed many
songs from 5150.  Best of both Worlds was a concert highlight then
continuing with an excellent rendition of Heavy Metal from Standing
Hampton.  Never Fall in Love Again was smooth as silk.

Sammy Hagar is in a league some rock bands never reach.  He mesmerizes
the crowd with his straight ahead  hard rock.  A very prolific guitar
player, Sammy and his band owned the stage, requesting the usual
margaritas and reflecting on his beliefs.  The most famous of his
quotations stands the test of time.  “I don’t want to be a fake star
y’know.  I want to be legitimately be the baddest mother up there!”
He doesn’t have to tell us this, but he loves doing it.  In fact this
writer believes it was one of the best and consummate concerts
delivered at this Costa Mesa, California venue.
