SEATTLE, WA (Hollywood Today) 7/29/10 – The third generation Kindle was bowed Wednesday by Amazon.com, Inc. Founder and Chief Executive Officer Jeff Bezos.
“We are excited to introduce a new generation Kindle that is smaller, lighter, and faster, with 50 percent better contrast. Readers are going to do a double take when they see Kindle’s bright new screen and how remarkably light the smaller 8.7 ounce design feels in one hand,” said Bezos.
Kindle is the number one best-selling product on Amazon for two years running, with millions of people using it to read books.
Amazon actually introduced two versions of the device. The first is a Wi-Fi model that costs $139. The second version has Wi-Fi and 3G mobile technology and costs $189.
The new Kindles are also easier to read in sunlight and have batteries that will last for one month on a single charge.
The Kindle provides the largest selection of the most popular books that people want to read. Currently, the U.S. Kindle store has more than 630,000 books available.
“We’re trying to build something that’s great for long-form reading-something you’d use if you want to sit down and read for two hours,” said Bezos in an interview this week. “Our mission on the device side of business is to use the latest technology to make the very best purpose-built reading device. We think that’s a mass product.”
