Is Plain Jane Different?

The CW debuts a new reality/makeover program called ”Plain Jane” on Wednesday, July 28 at 9pm, hosted by fashion writer and stylist, Louise Roe. The premise in each of the 8 episodes is to transform a different “plain Jane” into a confident, fashionable date, because every plain Jane has a secret crush.  Inside and out – from head to toe, Roe addresses all aspects, hoping to empower Jane and help her realize her dating potential, culminating in a blind date with her paramour.

In the premiere show, Cristen has fallen into the “friend zone” with her crush, Ty, a hunky, athletic musician. After staking him out at the park, it feels a bit like scripted reality as the mark is looking sexy playing a friendly game of Frisbee. They begin the transformation, including facing fears and date training, which is a bit like dog training and even takes place at the dog park!

Roe is confident, funny and says absolutely everything on her mind, but she’s supportive and does so in a way that she still sounds sweet and comforting. She seems to be the fairy godmother with a Bloomingdale’s credit card. Cristen goes through her paces and learns that anything worthwhile comes from taking a risk. The physical transformation is done in Hollywood where hair and make up is their business, so after a few tears our Cinderella is finally ready for her date.  This plain Jane doesn’t have far to go, and naturally is lovely as she heads out to surprise Ty on their date.

There really isn’t anything wrong with being a plain Jane, but it is nice to watch someone discover their inner confidence and be able to express feelings for a secret crush and learn a little about making your surroundings, hair, nails and clothing a bit more stylish too!
