Thursday was the first official day of Comic Con 2010 in San Diego, and it was quite a day! The show is officially sold out, so visitors are enjoying celebrity panels, previews, the latest gadgets, games and gizmos and, naturally, comics.
Panels for Thursday brought out Sony, who promoted “Salt” and “Battle: Los Angeles”. The “Salt” panel included director, Phillip Noyce and producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura, and of coarse, Angelina Jolie and Liev Schreiber. Noyce explained that Jolie’s love of action roles helped them create the character of CIA agent Evelyn Salt, a role that was originally written for Tom Cruise. The movie just opened in theaters.
The “Battle: Los Angeles” panel included stars Michelle Rodrigues and Aaron Eckhart, along with director Jonathan Liebesman and producer Neal Moritz. “Battle” opens in March 2011 and they also showed a never before seen trailer packed with fast-action and explosions of the aliens invading LA.
Dreamworks promoted “Megamind”, an animated film with Will Ferrell, Tina Fey and Jonah Hill as the character’s voices. Ferrell was in usual form, showing up in character as the alien super villain. Co-star Brad Pitt didn’t make an appearance, but the rumor he would be there caused a huge stir beforehand.
From “Tron:Legacy” , the panel was made up of Jeff Bridges, Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde. Director Joseph Kosinski previewed a sneak peek of the film and surprised the fans by recording them shouting a series of cheers, which could be used in the actual movie.
Guiellermo del Toro entertained the panel speaking about “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark”. Originally developed with Miramax, the film will be released by Disney with an R rating.
There were even more star-studded panels and exciting goings on all day, including ”Scott Pilgrim vs. The World”, “RED” and “The Expendibles”.
