Lindsay starts 14 days in the pokey

LOS ANGELES, CA (Hollywood Today) 7/21/10 — On Tuesday morning, 24-year-old Lindsay Lohan reported to a south Los Angeles jail to serve 14 days of a 90-day sentence as reported by the Los Angeles Times.
A Sheriff’s Department spokesperson told reporters that non-violent female inmates generally serve approximately 25 percent of their term. Overcrowded jails and good behavior also play a role in reducing sentences.
The “Mean Girls” actress is “scared as anyone would be…and she’s resolute,” said Shawn Chapman Holley, who represents Lohan. “She asks for prayers and support…she has accepted responsibility.”
Judge Marsha Revel sentenced Lohan last month for a 90-day prison term for violating her probation on drunk-driving.
“The message to the public is don’t drink and drive,” said Deputy District Attorney Danette Meyers, who prosecuted Lohan. “If you do drink and drive, and you’re punished for it, complete the programs.”
A Sheriff’s Department booking document states Lohan’s projected release date in Aug. 2.

My daughter, about Lindsay’s age, landed in that jail for ten days last summer. She’s been an amazingly wonderful person since then– the generous, positive, kind girl I knew her to be before her teenage rebellion began. I wouldn’t say that jail reformed her. But it certainly gave her time to re-evaluate what is important in life, and to determine to redirect her path. I hope Lindsay will do the same. She is a beautiful and talented young woman. There is much good she could be doing, but she’ll only be able to accomplish it if she is healthy and whole. As an actress, she’ll be able to use the pain in her life to inform and inspire her work. But she need not continue living and wallowing in and increasing her pain. Life gives us plenty of trouble. We don’t have to look for more.
