Double Wedding starring Tia and Tamera Mowry, twin sisters, double trouble

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 6/20/2010 – Identical twins Danielle (Tamera Mowry) and Deanna (Tia Mowry) each need a date for a big family wedding. Their grandparents are renewing their vows., having the big wedding they didn’t get when they married fifty years ago. The twins can’t bring just anyone as their dates to this wedding, it has to be someone special.

While they may look identical, the two women have quite different personalities. Deanna is a no-nonsense lawyer who wants to make partner. She has no time to find a relationship, but finds the perfect guy unexpectedly after her paralegal Jaz sets her up on a blind date.

Deanna’s twin Danielle works as a pastry chef. She’s commitment-phobic, afraid that any guy will leave her like her father left her mother. While Deanna boldly chases her dream job, Danielle is scared to follow her dream of opening her own bakery. Danielle decides to take a chance by entering the New York Cake Off. She could win the money needed to start her dream business. She meets her man at a coffee shop.

They each have found a fantastic guy, and just in time to ask him to go to the wedding. He’s smart and funny. However, there’s a problem. The girls, who each go by the nickname “D”, eventually figure out they’re dating the same guy named Tate (played by O.T. Fagbenle). Which sister will give him up? Will Tate figure out that it’s two women, not mood swings?

Double Wedding is a charming feel-good movie. Great acting by Tia and Tamera Mowry as strong lead characters. The Mowrys have matured as actresses and do well in their roles.

The premise is great. The script, by Jennifer Maisel, has wonderful moments. However, the competition between the sisters flags, does not fully sustain the story. When the grandmother reveals that she and her sister also fought bitterly over a guy, it gets too neat and preachy.

The twins lack of interaction with their mother misses an opportunity to bridge the generations. The grandmother’s interference in the lives of the twins seems too much.

Making the sisters more competitive would have been fun. The story could have been allowed to go over the top there to get bigger laughs.

Director Craig Pryce keeps the pace of the movie so there are no slow spots  The director of photography is John Berrie. The editor is Mark Sanders. Music is by Lawrence Shragge. Double Wedding was filmed in Toronto.

Premieres on Lifetime on June 20 at 8pm ET or 5pm PT. Running time 120 minutes.

It was a wholesome family film with the girls a little edgier than I’ve ever seen them. It made it more real and less cheesy. Their love interest played with a lot of depth.

Movie was a lame and typically pointless lifetime film. The plot was very futile and the lines in the script were pathetic…. The twin’s outfits were really nice though and Jazz was really cute also..
