HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today)( 04/17-10 — The remains of TIME magazine’s photojournalist Sean Flynn, son of film legend Errol Flynn, may have been found in a mass grave in Cambodia on March 26, 2010 (NY Daily News).

Sean left his Hollywood acting career behind seeking fame and adventure as a photojournalist in Cambodia during the Vietnam War, never to be seen again.

Many journalists braved danger, never believing their safety was at stake in their role as neutral observers of war.    In April of 1970, Sean and his friend Dana, were believed to have been captured by Khmer Rouge guerrillas.

Motivated by this incredible story, 21-year-old Brendan Moriarty wrote, produced and directed the war adventure drama, THE ROAD TO FREEDOM.  This film deemed “A Cinematic Journey!” by Examiner.com, will be premiering at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood on April 27, 2010, and will be at the Cannes in May 2010.

Moriarty grew up in Cambodia, hearing first hand accounts of the Khmer Rouge regime while father was stationed as a Diplomat there. With these contacts he was able to in fact direct the Cambodian Army during the making of this remarkable film, shot entirely in Cambodia last year by master cinematographer, David Mun.

“I was moved by true tales of these brave journalists who disappeared.  People will never remember them if someone doesn’t tell their stories.” Brendan said.

The film The Road to Freedom was inspired by the true stories of dozens of journalists who disappeared in Cambodia in the 1970s.  The independent production was filmed near the coastal town of Kep, three hours from the capital Phnom Penh.  Filming in the Cambodian region had a profound effect on the cast and crew.

Joshua Frederic Smith, who plays Sean, and Scott Maguire, who plays Dana said, ”We’re literally filming, on the very ground where all this took place it was overwhelming and very powerful.”

The film’s producer, Blu de Golyer states “Like ghosts, the two men have become stories told around the campfire, but the facts are still out there, deep in the darkest heart of man and only The Road to Freedom can carry the truth to the light.”  With the recent findings of the burial grave, perhaps we can shed some light.
