HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 3/13/10 — The dark struggle against addiction has haunted Corey Haim most of his life since he shot to fame in the 1980s starring in movies like Lost Boys, Lucas, License To Drive, and Silver Bullet. His untimely death at age 38 has his fans reeling.
The actor collapsed early in the morning and was unable to be revived while staying with his cancer stricken mother in Burbank at the Oakwood Apartments. “Don’t jump the gun that he died of a drug overdose”, says actor Corey Feldman, his best friend over the years. The two young actors who supported each other in their battle against drug addiction, more recently stared together in an A&E reality series ‘The Two Corey’s.
The coroner has declined to comment on the possible cause of death, pending toxicology results in four to six weeks, but they have reiterated that four bottles of prescription pills were recovered near Hams’ body and no illegal drugs were found.
Whether Haim died of an overdose, or complications thereof, his death is especially tragic as he was broke and had been overlooked by Hollywood for a long time.
Haim’s family is reaching out to fans to contribute to a memorial fund that would defray some of the costs of his funeral. They are also selling his memorabilia to raise money for his funeral.
Haim’s body has been released to his family,” Los Angeles County Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter confirmed. t is currently being prepared by an L.A.-area mortuary for shipment back to his native Toronto for interment.
“Corey’s funeral will be taking place next week in his hometown of Toronto.
