The all-star film Valentine’s Day film earned a winning $52 million on V-Day weekend on dates at 3,665 theaters. The romance picture features Anne Hathaway, Shirley Maclain, Ashton Kurtcher, Jessica Alba, Jessica Biel and more in the Garry Marshall film.
It beat out the Lightning Thief, which stole $31 million from the weekend box office stormy clouds as well as The Wolfman which bit off a respectable $30 million.
All were new highly-promoted films, but the No. 4 film earned $22 million without a lot of new promotion. It’s a little film called Avatar which is now up to a record $660 million domestically and 2.7 Billion worldwide, with a capital B.
Dear John wrote $15M letters home, a 50 perccent drop from last week, while the Tooth Fairy found $5.6M under her pillow.
The numbers are expected to go up as Monday is a holiday for many folks and will be a snow day for many more as storms continue to sweep the nation.
