NEW YORK (Hollywood Today) 09/11/2009 – Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler swiftly ended speculation that he was departing the legendary band by reuniting with lead guitarist Joe Perry Tuesday night in New York.
Tyler surprised the audience at the Fillmore New York at Irving Plaza by appearing on stage during a performance by the Joe Perry Project, Perry’s separate endeavor, to squash reports that he was planning on going solo and that the band was on the verge of breaking up.
“New York, I want you to know I’m not leaving Aerosmith,” Tyler declared before adding, “Joe Perry, you are a man of many colors. But I, mother—-er, am the rainbow.” The duo then launched into one of the group’s signature hits, Walk This Way, to the delight of the crowd.
The confirmation by Tyler that he was remaining with the band he helped form nearly 40 years ago came on the heels of last week’s announcement by Perry regarding Tyler’s status as Aerosmith’s lead singer. In an interview with the Las Vegas Sun, Perry explained that he had not spoken with Tyler for several months and the band was searching for a new frontman. He then tweeted his precise feelings. “Aerosmith is positivly looking for a new singer to work with,” Perry wrote, later acknowledging his terrible spelling. “You just can’t take 40 years of expiriance and throwitinthebin!”
After the performance, the iconic rock stars gave quick interviews to TMZ.com. Perry joked about Tyler, stating that “He just couldn’t stay away” and rumors of Aerosmith’s demise were untrue, while Tyler boldly proclaimed, “There is absolutely no validity to the rumor that Aerosmith is breaking up, mother—-er!”
