Justin Timberlake at 2009 Emmys
HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 9/20/2009 – “Justin Timberlake would still be famous, but without Lorne Michaels I wouldn’t be here,” says 30 Rock star and Saturday Night Live alum Tina Fey. Lorne Michaels is an executive producer of both Saturday Night Live and of 30 Rock. Fey, a former cast member and head writer, revived Saturday Night Live with her amazing dead-on impersonation of Vice-Presidential hopeful Sarah Palin.
“It’s a huge surprise!” says 2009 Emmy Awards winner Justin Timberlake. Not really. Both Fey and Timberlake had received their Guest Emmys a week early at the Creative Emmy Awards, in case the Emmys went long and there wouldn’t be enough time tonight. The move to award some Emmys during the Creative Emmys to shorten the Emmys show sparked controversy and has been reversed after objections from actors.
Timberlake made Emmy history by winning as a Saturday Night Live host in the first year that SNL hosts could contend for a Guest Emmy. Of 22 SNL hosts, Timberlake was the only one to be nominated. He’s the youngest winner ever in this category. Timberlake has won six Grammys.
Timberlake walked down the red carpet for the 2009 Emmy Awards solo, without girlfriend Jennifer Biel. On the red carpet he told Ryan Seacrest that he’s currently spending time working with Rihanna on her new album in the studio. “The stuff we’ve come up with in the studio, it’s the next step for her,” says Timberlake. “It’s a little more grown up. It’s got some edge to it.”
