40 years later after it changed the world
By Jeffrey Jolson
HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 9/12/09 – There are very few films that define a generation. “Easy Rider” was one, even though it was a terrible movie.
This writer saw the original and it changed his life.
Now a sequel of sorts has emerged, though Dennis Hopper is neither director, nor Peter Fonda not the star. Yet moves must be made to clear the way for the new fans.
Yet as flawed as Hopper’s first film was, it was an appropriate fast ride through our youth. We all wanted to become outlaws, till we saw the final scene.
Now there is new one, with new actors.
One of the world’s quintessential cult film classics is roaring back onto the big screen. The long-awaited sequel/prequel EASY RIDER: THE RIDE BACK is ready to go on the road and slated to hold sneak peek screenings in select cities starting in October 2009.
The script, penned by newcomers Dustin Rikert and Phil Pitzer, shows through flashbacks how the original famed characters became classic icons of a generation. The film attached Sheree J. Wilson of the hit show WALKER, TEXAS RANGER, DALLAS to co-produce and star in the film, along side new young Hollywood hot breakout stars like Y&R Heartthrob, Chris Engen and Jerry Bruckheimer’s THE FORGOTTEN’S Michelle Borth. Also featured is GRINDHOUSE, LOST star Jeff Fahey, ANGELS & DEMONS’ Rance Howard, and THE PROPOSAL’s Michael Nouri and newcomer Thomas Blakenship.
Produced by Pan America Pictures, the film has been creating buzz all over world from the Cannes Film Festival to the National Bike Festival Circuit at full throttle. Bringing the thrill of the open road back, EASY RIDER: THE RIDE BACK will be holding its first sneak peak and “road carpet” special screening in Las Vegas Oct. 1, 2009 at the Palms Hotel. National roll out will follow with distribution details to be announced. And of course, a killer soundtrack.
Almost 40 years ago Easy Rider captured America’s imagination as a counterculture film that explored an era and it’s trials and tribulations. Now, Part sequel, part prequel, EASY RIDER: THE RIDE BACK delves into the family lineage of Wyatt “Captain America” Williams (played in the original by Peter Fonda) and the families trials and tribulations throughout the decades of the 40′s, 50′s, 60′s, and 70′s to present day. Juxt-a-posed against the families love affair with motorcycles, the film delves into issues of love, War, honor, and redemption, while keeping true to the spirit of the original film: the iconic “Buddy Ride” and the idea of a continuing search for freedom in an America that is struggling to find its identity.
