HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today” 8/11/09 — Oscar winner and people’s favorite Jennifer Hudson gave birth to a boy weighing in at 7 pounds, 14 ounces. Named David Daniel Otunga Jr. after Hudson’s fiancé. He is a Chicago lawyer, is working to become a WWE contender and like Hudson, as been reality TV star – though his show was VH1′s “I Love NY 2″ while hers was “American Idol.”
Hudson has not only won an Oscar as supporting actress on “Dreamgirls,” but a Grammy, a Golden Globe, a BAFTA awards and several other big Hollywood prizes.
But all the acclaim didn’t come without tragedy. On October 24, 2008, Hudson’s 57-year-old mother, Darnell Donerson, and the singer’s 29-year-old brother, Jason, were found shot dead inside Donerson’s Chicago, Illinois home. Likely shot before 3 p.m., they were discovered by the sister Julia.
Julian King, Hudson’s 7-year old nephew was abducted at the time and his body found in a Chevrolet Suburban in Chicago days later. A gun was found later in a nearby parking lot, registered to slain brother Jason and reported missing months earlier.
After some struggling to get the goods on the suspect, William Balfour, 27, was charged with three homicides. Balfour was the estranged husband of Hudson’s sister Julia, and out on parole for attempted murder, carjacking and grand theft auto.
The Chicago police picked up Balfour the day of the Hudson-King murders but it took till December before he was officially charged with three counts of first degree murder, one count of home invasion and was denied bail.
Hudson has tried to put it behind her and after a long period of absence from the sand the Star Spangled banner at SuperBowl XLIII, and tunes on “Oprah” and Michael Jackson’s memorial, where she looked noticeably pre-natal, though she had made no official announcement.
Perhaps the birth will give her a new dream to follow and put death in the past.
