Blake Lively discusses childhood run-in with park security

By Matthew B. Zeidman

NEW YORK (Hollywood Today) 3/25/09 – A recurring theme on The CW’s “Gossip Girl” is wild child Serena van der Woodsen’s checkered past, so it was somewhat less than ironic when actress Blake Lively, who portrays the teen socialite, admitted to a youthful indiscretion of her own on Tuesday’s “Late Show with David Letterman.”

“I was banned from Disneyland for a year, because I went to Disney prison,” the 21-year-old told the recently married host, whom she jokingly offered to whisk away to a remote polygamist compound with “Pretty Woman” star Julia Roberts. “I was really young. I was not responsible for this. It was my brother’s fault.”

Lively claimed that when she was 6 years old, her brother, who was 12 at the time, attempted to sneak the pair into the park by transferring another patron’s hand stamp onto their own hands with a can of hairspray.

According to the bubbly thespian, park security intercepted them at the gate and took them to the park’s holding area for interrogation. With no confession from either of the then-underage siblings, Disneyland agents released them with a warning and a year-long ban.

“It’s interesting, because they spend billions and billions of dollars building a wonderland for kids, and then they’re stunned and surprised that kids would want to sneak in,” Letterman humorously noted.

Lively claimed she planned to return to the California theme park, often billed as “the happiest place on Earth,” during her upcoming vacation from filming “Gossip Girl,” which she had been doing without a break for the past year.

The native of Tarzana, Calif. told Letterman she had regularly visited Disneyland twice a week as a young child with her mother, who excused her from school for the outings.

Lively, along with co-star Leighton Meester, appeared on the front of this week’s “Rolling Stone” magazine, which included a multi-page profile of the popular teen-oriented drama, its cast and its creative team.

Of the magazine’s salacious cover, which featured Lively and Meester sharing a frozen treat in a suggestive pose, the actress joked, “The recession is affecting everyone. They couldn’t even afford two ice-cream cones.”
