Johanna King can go from handouts to tiaras and roses
By Jeffrey Jolson
HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 11/11/08 – The streets can be hard, but heroic people are harder still. Former homeless person Johanna King, National American Miss Virginia 2008-09 will be competing for the National Title in Anaheim, CA during Thanksgiving week.
Just as few once thought Sen. Barack Obama could become President or Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin could say the things she did. There is an odd sea change right now. It seems to be one of those periods that anything is possible.
Johanna seeks to use her platform to bring awareness of the growing homeless situation in our country and looks to touch, move and inspire individuals that are directly and indirectly affected homelessness through her motivational speech and examples.
This writer knows and I try to help the homeless with their first online resumes. But none I’ve met could be Miss America, most needed a good shave. But then again, would you have predicted Obama five years ago?
King is a Junior in High School and maintains a 4.0 grade average and hopes to become a lawyer and legal advocate of the homeless one day. She will be visiting the Orange County Rescue Mission during her trip to Disney World that week to compete for the National Crown.

WOW!! I am so impressed with Johanna’s accomplishments and goals for her future! I am so proud to live in a country that it is possible for people to turn their lives around in the way that Johanna has done. My daughter has also competed in the National American Miss pageant and the organiztion has helped her in so many ways to become a more confident person. She also realizes that the choices she makes NOW will truly impact who she is and what she becomes in the future. Good Luck at Nationals Johanna!!! Your future looks BRIGHT!!!
