After Months of denials, The Material Girl and Guy Ritchie are over

Madonna leaving for A-Rod or Brit life?

LONDON, UK (Hollywood Today) 10/15/08 — “Madonna and Guy Ritchie have agreed to divorce after seven and a half years of marriage,” the couple issued in a statement. Amid the rumors of Madonna’s relationship with Yankee’s slugger Alex Rodriguez, Madonna and Ritchie announced today that their troubled marriage is over. Madonna has been out of the American tabloids in recent years but headlines them daily in London, where fodder for gossip is King.

It’s been reported that the couple is seeking relief from the tabloid press and the paparazzi while they sort out their future, which includes a $500 million fortune. Some of the issues to resolve besides the money are the 1,200 acre estate in London, homes in Los Angeles and New York and child custody concerns. “They have both requested that the media maintain respect for their family at this difficult time,” the statement continued.

Madonna had recently informed the press a few months ago that her relationship with Rodriguez was based on a friendship through a pre arranged meeting with their manager Guy Oseary. Rodriguez had asked her about Kabbalah so it goes. After months of questions, Madonna stated to the press, “I am not romantically involved with Alex Rodriguez.” The Star Light Star Bright girl added, “My husband and I are not getting a divorced.”

Although Madonna’s career seems stronger than ever and her popularity has never diminished most people were not familiar with filmmaker Guy Ritchie until he married Madonna. Additionally, Ritchie’s film career has not done better during his eight year marriage to Madonna. He need not worry too much since it has been reported that Ritchie’s stand alone net worth is $35 million.

After the bruising battle Heather Mills put Paul McCartney through publicly in the media and the courts, it’s not clear if Ritchie will do the same to “Madge” - Madonna’s nickname given to her by the UK press. The couple met through mutual friend Sting, and were eventually married in a Scottish Castle.
Madge ‘n Guy have three kids - Rocco, 8, Madonna’s 12-year-old daughter Lourdes with ex Carlos Leon, and adopted baby David, 3.
