Kristin Davis after ‘Sex and the City’
Davis, the perky optimist in ‘Sex and the City’, overcomes poverty and injustice through Oxfam

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 9/23/08 - “Because she has so much of what she wants, she’s kind of focused on other people,” says Kristin Davis of her character’s evolution from the TV series to the film ‘Sex and the City’. That’s also much like the actress in real life.
Kristin Davis is a Global Ambassador for Oxfam International, an organization that seeks lasting solutions to poverty and injustice. Davis has been a supporter since the southeast Asia tsunami of 2005 and has participated in Oxfam HIV humanitarian projects in Mozambique, South Africa and Uganda.
“I’ve been amazed by the incredible strength and energy of South Africa’s community groups in tackling the AIDS epidemic in this country,” Davis told Hollywood Today. “People like Mama Grace, who runs a soup kitchen in Soweto for orphans and other vulnerable children, are an incredible tower of strength in South Africa’s uphill response to AIDS. These unsung heroes are pulling together what little food and money they have to provide care to those living with HIV. Oxfam helps support them in this effort. These people are inspirational, but can’t win the battle on their own. These communities need nurses and doctors. These wonderful people are holding up their communities and need our support.”
In ‘Sex and the City’, Kristin Davis portrays the ever-hopeful Charlotte York Goldenblatt, who has found happiness on the Upper East Side with her unlikely prince of a husband Harry (Evan Handler) and their beautiful adopted daughter, Lily (Alexandra Fong). Davis reprised her role from the HBO series for the film that premiered in theaters in May and releasing on DVD today.
‘Sex and the City’ was not at all what any of us expected,” says Davis. “You never expect something to be as successful and go for as long as we got to go. We had just a really incredible time. It was like a three-ring circus. It was stunning. Not a day would go by that someone wouldn’t say how much they miss the show or how much they love the show. They’re very supportive fans.”
Davis’ role as Charlotte York on HBO’s ‘Sex and the City’ earned her Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. All four women, Kristen Davis, Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall, won the SAG Ensemble Award not once but twice. The series ‘Sex and the City’ won an Emmy and numerous Golden Globe Awards throughout its six seasons.
“We are like a really intense family,” says Davis. “We have some new additions, and a few people couldn’t join us, but largely most of us are together for the movie. Michael Patrick made us laugh every day,” says Kristin Davis, of the director’s immersion in shooting the project. “He has some strange ability to be all the characters. Sometimes he’ll come to direct a scene in the movie, and he’ll be really choked up. It’s so adorable. He’s written it and lived it.”
Four years after the HBO Television series ended, Kristin Davis, Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall and Cynthia Nixon came back to show us they’ve still got it. It’s all the ups and downs their lives have always had and more. They also have new problems and challenges, but behind it all is their friendship that binds them together.
Kristin Davis is a Global Ambassador for Oxfam International and a supporter of Oxfam America Unwrapped. In May the ‘Sex and the City’ star raised $52,000 for Oxfam America by auctioning on eBay the chance to meet her at the world premiere of the film. Oxfam Ambassadors Scarlett Johansson, Colin Firth, and Djimon Hounsou participated in similar fundraisers on eBay.
Warner Bros. is releasing the movie ‘Sex and the City’ on DVD on September 23rd, 2008.
