F1 to hear appeal over Hamilton disqualification

HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 9/22/08 — The Dover Speedway in Delaware hosted this weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup race, which was also the second race in the big Chase for the championship. The Camping World RV 400 sponsored event, at the one mile oval, where it was nearly standing room only with close to 140, 000 fans looked on. This is a truly amazing track, built nearly 40 years ago, and over the years the track has added the additional seating to allow one of the largest crowds in NASCAR to watch the race.
“The Biff,” Greg Biffle has won his second Cup race in a row. It wasn’t until winning last week’s race, that Biffle hadn’t won a race in nearly a year. Talk about feast or famine. Driving in circles, 400 times around Dover is no walk in the park, it’s a long, quick race. Make a small mistake, and it could send you to the back of the pack. This was a fairly smooth race, with no real incidents with the exception of Points leader, Kyle Busch who finished the race last, in 43rd position with a blown engine, and dropped him by 4 positions in the Chase. Disappointed, Busch seemed to feel that his chances to win the championship weren’t good, mainly due to his equipment. Funny thing is, that very same equipment had him leading the Cup series up until last week. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
The Roush-Fenway team had their way with the entire field today by not only Biffle winning the race, but team mate Matt Kenseth taking second, and his other team mate, Carl Edwards finishing in 3rd place. It doesn’t get much better than that for a multi-car team. Dale Jr. could only manage a 24th place finish to drop him to 9th in the points chase. Carl Edwards, Jimmie Johnson, and Greg Biffle make up the top three drivers in the Chase.
Next weekend’s race will be at the Kansas Speedway for the Camping World RV 400, presented by Coleman.
The FIA governing body is due to meet this week to hear the appeal by McLaren F1 on the severe penalty against Lewis Hamilton, who was stripped of his win in Belgium for an illegal pass on Kimi Raikkonen. Personally, I’ve never heard of a steward’s penalty being overturned by the FIA, so it doesn’t look too good for Hamilton, and a 7 point differential in the point’s race.
This weekend is going to be a first for Formula 1, as the street circuit in Singapore will host F1′s first race under the lights. This should really be something to see…200mph into a corner, at night.

The chase for the points just got even more interesting. I’m glad to see Biffle finally win two races after a strong season of 0 wins. I’m looking forward to the next race in Kansas as Kyle Busch is going to be racing his butt off as he’s slipped drastically in the points.
Keep up the NASCAR articles!
