Nikki Blonsky, Father Involved in Fight with America’s Next Top Model Contestant

Blonsky released on bail in Turks and Caicos, father detained

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos (Hollywood Today) 8/3/08 – In a bizarre turn of events, “Hairspray” actress Nikki Blonsky, her father, Carl, and former “America’s Next Top Model” contestant Bianca Golden all faced charges Wednesday in the sunny Caribbean destination of Turks and Caicos for allegedly coming to blows over the right to seats in an airport lounge.

According to the Turks and Caicos Weekly News, Blonsky and her dad were saving several spots in the Providenciales International Airport departure lounge.  They had placed luggage on the seats, and when Golden and her family attempted to move the bags, the fight broke out.

According to the newspaper, Golden’s mother, Elaine, was airlifted to Miami for treatment, after being injured in the melee.

Blonsky and Golden were arrested on charges of assault and inflicting actual bodily harm, according to E!, though they were released on bail after appearing in court.  Blonsky’s father, who was remanded into custody until a hearing this Friday, is accused of causing grievous bodily harm.  Though Golden’s younger brother, George, was present during the fight, he was not detained by police.

Blonsky also appeared to be injured during the brawl, wearing a neck brace to court, Us Magazine detailed.  She must reappear before a judge in the tourist-heavy British territory on Dec. 1 to respond to the charges against her.

Hollywood Today spoke to Blonsky, 19, in April regarding her role in the independent comedy “Harold,” which also starred Spencer Breslin, Cuba Gooding Jr. and Ally Sheedy.  “…I want [the audience] to see the underlying message of ‘don’t judge a book by its cover’ and be a little more accepting of people,” the Great Neck, N.Y. native said at the time.  “Let them in and don’t push them away because of their looks or certain things.  Just accept people for who they are.”

Golden, 19, finished fourth out of an original 20 contestants on the ninth season of the Tyra Banks-hosted reality show “America’s Next Top Model.”  The resident of nearby Queens County, N.Y. was known for becoming involved in heated confrontations with fellow participants during the course of filming.
