HOLLYWOOD, CA (Hollywood Today) 7/31/08 — The Prince of Funkadelic Punk, George Clinton celebrated his 67th birthday this week at a star-studded celebration that brought out legend Sly Stone, as well as record producer and Red Hot Chili Pepper, John Frusciante.

There were Hennessy Mojitos and finger food, lots of good cheer, and tons of photographers – and Zunela is a spacious place – a former photographer’s loft. Some of George Clinton’s biggest hits include “Atomic Dog,” “Bullet Proof,” “Last Dance,” and “Get Dressed.” He’s releasing a new “Gangsta” album with a roster of artists/musicians including RCA, System of a Down, bassist Shavo Odadjian, El De Barge, Carlos and Santana, and Red Hot Chili Peppers. It drops on September 16.

In other big music news, Gibson presents “Through The Lens” photo exhibition opening August 1, at The Sunset Marquis Hotel & Villas in West Hollywood. It features 70 iconic photos of rock stars and their Gibson guitars. Some of those include Jeff Beck, Stevie Wonder, Slash, Moby, and Billy Gibbons. It continues through August 24.

And more music stuff…

Don’t Knock The Rock Film Festival continues into August. On August 16 – BMI will conduct a roundtable chat: music in film, TV and new media, and that same day, there will be a workshop called, “Beyond YouTube: Directing a Music Documentary.” Filmmaker Allison Anders is the co-founder of the fest, and the MC is Michael Des Barres. These take place at Arclight Hollywood. Rock out!
